Summary

‘I was asked the other day what I thought the hardest part of parenting was. I’d have to say that it’s definitely the kids.’

TikTok sensation Clara Batten has dedicated the last few years to seeking the answer to one of life’s most crucial questions:

Is it possible to raise and nurture two small humans without losing your bloody mind?

The good news is, now she’s found (some of) the answers and is sharing her secrets with the rest of us! In this riotous book, Clara reveals:

  • when it’s acceptable to buy your kids lunch from a kebab shop.
  • why a jar of pickled herrings from Waitrose is the ultimate guilty pleasure, nay necessity, for a sleep-deprived parent.
  • how to finally pursue your acting ambitions in your forties (despite a toddler sh*tting on the stairs during a self-tape audition).

Most importantly, Clara shows us that no matter how much we adore our little treasures, life isn’t just about their A, B and bloody Cs.

So so funny and relatable

A wonderful, whitty, heartwarming and relatable piece of work. She’s also written a very good book.

Immensely readable and entertaining

Written in an enjoyably readable chatty style, this wonderful book takes you on a marvellously positive journey through the middle class life and motherhood of the author. English to the core, it’s peppered with laugh out load moments

Clara Delights Us

I loved the book. Full of anecdotes and thoughts delivered with such delicious humour. Clara is the person I would love to have been friends with at school; we would have had amazing fun.

Makes me look forward to my commute!

I listen to this to and from work each day and it never fails to make me smile and often laugh out loud on the train! Clara manages to reach into the truth of life with kids but tells her story with so much laughter, joy and energy. This book lets you know that, if you don’t take yourself too seriously, if you know who you really are and if you love more than you fear; then life is going to be ok. Love it!xxx

Funny, heart warming tales from a Tik Tok Star

Loved it. I've followed Clara for some time and hearing the book in her voice with her tone, intonations and emotions made it thoroughly enjoyable. Beautifully written and I hope she writes again.

As brilliant as I’d hoped it would be …

Happened by chance to find Clara Batten on TikTok and was immediately a fan. She is the epitome of who I wish I’d been 20 odd years ago! An instantly warm, engaging, self-deprecating, funny and totally honest wife, mother of 2, actress & storyteller … and with great pink hair ! I did the mum of 2 kids & pink hair myself, though I’m not sure I carried either off quite as well 😂 I listened to Gin and Phonics as an Audiobook and am genuinely gutted I have finished it … it was like having Clara in the car with me on my daily commutes and I can highly recommend it. I have just urged her to “get on with writing your next book” & I suggest you do the same… and follow her on TikTok too 🤩… thank you Clara for my daily dose of classic Brit humour !

An absolute blinder

I rarely review books tbh. More out of laziness than anything else but I have laughed out loud and identified many times listening to this hilarious book. She’s narrates just how she speaks which makes it even more funny. Really enjoyed it.. twice ❤️
