About this listen
Borderline Personality Disorder. "What the hell was that?" raged Rachel Reiland when she read the diagnosis written in her medical chart. As the 29-year-old accountant, wife, and mother of young children would soon discover, it was the diagnosis that finally explained her explosive anger, manipulative behaviors, and self-destructive episodes - including bouts of anorexia, substance abuse, and sexual promiscuity. With astonishing honesty, Reiland's memoir reveals what mental illness feels like and looks like from the inside, and how healing from such a devastating disease is possible through intensive therapy and the support of loved ones.

Honest and real story, can give good insights to all family members - it’s tough, but curable
It should be considered as an autobiography I suppose. Language is simple to understand, whereas situation isn’t. As my ex was diagnosed with BPD, I also decided to undertake some research - it’s affecting everybody in some way. What’s important- as some people trying to label BPD as a disaster- it’s not actually the end, it cannot actually be a topic of blame or accusations. It’s just a path, and only linked with a particular person. As Rachel describes and I heard something similar from time to time- people with BPD suffer from their own remorses, i.e. self-punishment, so there is no point and even cruel to blame them additionally. In other words, this book can give some insights not only for people with BPD, which of course can be useful as an example- there are other people like me!. Their partners and family also will gain understanding how it’s difficult to go through therapy (and life), and they should support them and facilitate their therapy, and be firm at the same time as her spouse- it’s important I believe to be able to say stop.
About religion views- first of all they aren’t persuasive, they are just personal ruminations and secondly- it doesn’t matter I think what particularly is supporting someone afloat.

Insightful
The only first hand account of Borderline Personality Disorder I’ve ever come across.
It helps to know what their inner world is like rather than just the experience of their self destructive behaviour.

An Educating Listen
Where does Get Me Out of Here rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?
I think I have learned so much from this book. Though it feels wrong to say that I feel entertained, I did, while learning at the same time.
The time flew listening to the book and I laughed out loud one minute and curled my toes the next.
I work with frail people so this book has been good for my work life too.
What other book might you compare Get Me Out of Here to, and why?
I do not have a comparison... You do ask some silly questions from time to time ;-)
Have you listened to any of Mazhan Marno’s other performances? How does this one compare?
I have not listened to Mazhan Marno before.. She did very well!
Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I did have different emotional reactions to the book and it both frightened me and made me laugh.. but even more it gave me food for thought.
It was hard to put down as it moved on so very smoothly.. I think many people may benefit from reading / listening to it.

If you worry about how you react to things sometimes listen to this book. By the end of the book I felt as though I had stood in Rachel's shoes.

Enlightening
Having BPD myself I couldn’t believe how enlightening this book could be to understanding my own state of mind but also allow those on the outside to gain an understanding of what those with mental health difficulties have to face on a day to day basis.

The best BPD book I have read… and there have been many
A grateful thank you to the author for bearing her soul, feelings, trails and tribulations in such honest and open way. It has helped me better understand not only the illness but also myself.
