Summary
Hauptmanns Schauspiel "Fuhrmann Henschel" wurde 1898 in Berlin uraufgeführt. Die Handlung spielt in einem schlesischen Badeort und thematisiert den Untergang eines Fuhrunternehmers: Der tragische Protagonist Wilhelm Henschel verliert erst seine Frau, dann seine Tochter - und auch die Hochzeit mit seiner ehemaligen Magd erweist sich als großer Fehler. Gerhart Hauptmann bekam für Fuhrmann Henschel, das zu seinen naturalistischen Stücken zählt, den Grillparzer-Preis.
