Hero Wantage is desperate to change her fate.

When the dashing Lord Sherry proposes out of the blue, Hero is overjoyed—she'll escape a life as a governess and, once they wed, he can finally claim his inheritance.

But as Hero attempts to social climb in glamorous London society, Sherry is concerned that her naivety will ruin them both and takes drastic action.

The chaos that follows will push friendships—and hearts—to breaking point.

Brilliant story telling

This has been one of my favourite books for many years and is still one I enjoy re-reading. Owen Findlay does a superb job of narrating, getting just the right tone of voice for both male and female characters as well as interpreting the style of the period language.
This production truly deserves the 5 star rating. Heartfelt thanks to all involved.

My New Favourite Hayer

Perhaps due to not having grown up in Britain, I was wholly ignorant of Georgette Heyers books until recently when I came across them on Audible. I have now listened to a fair few of them and really enjoy them. I have to say that the enjoyment of each story does to a large extent depend on the narrators, which are for the most part very good, with only a few being flat or unsuitable to the story. However I have to say that the narration of this book is particularly excellent. Owen Findlay does a superb job of all the voices and really animates the different characters. I have laughed out loud at some of the things said and done by the four friends. I don't often leave a review but wanted to do so for this book. I have not even finished it yet but it is now definitely my favourite Heyer. As with the other Heyer books I have listened to the story is light and entertaining and definitely worth a listen.

Very well read

I really like the novel by Georgette Heyer and Owen Findlay does it justice with the way it’s read and his character voices.

Definitely one of my favourite books!

The first of Georgette Heyer's books that I have ever read was The Great Sophie and I just loved it. Then I read Regency Buck and also I loved it. However, when I started listening Friday's Child I must confess, I thought was a mistake to have bought it, but it has surpassed me in a very pleasant way. I listen again and again and I just can't stop or get bored of it. The ridiculous characters make me laugh and even when I know what it will happen I still pay attention to the narrative.

Regency Wodehouse, nattily narrated

Loved this story! Enormous fun, I think it’s my favourite of the “naive young bride getting into scrapes” category, and there’s a great cast of characters, a good few of whom have changes and character arcs of their own. It’s beautifully balanced by the hero being just as naive as the heroine and doing a considerable amount of growing up (and recognition eventually of the problems of double standards!). And I love the cast of friends - the narrator does a superb job on the voices too. The whole thing was rather Bertie Wooster, and would certainly appeal to Wodehouse fans.

Amusing

Good story. Narrator is excellent actor of character voices. Narrative sections somewhat unclear due to casual accent used. Some usual Penguin issues about under-researched pronunciation. Good production apart from that.

Great narration of one of Heyer’s best

Owen Findlay perfectly narrates this cracking Heyer classic. His voicing of the different characters is outstanding and adds hugely to the enjoyment of the very entertaining plot.

Great Narration.

I have read and reread this book and completely enjoyed the narration in this. I felt it was in tone with the book. Heyer is my favourite author and her books seem like old friends.
