Summary

When a young trooper is shot in the head at the Regiment’s renowned Killing House, Nick Stone is perfectly qualified to investigate the mysterious circumstances more deeply. He has just returned from Moscow – still trying to come to terms with the fact that his girlfriend and baby son are safer there without him – so combines an unrivalled understanding of the Special Forces landscape with a detachment that should allow him to remain in cover.

But less than forty-eight hours later, a second death catapults him back into the firing line – into the telescopic sights of an unknown assassin bent on protecting a secret that could strike at the heart of the establishment that Stone has, in his maverick fashion, spent most of his life fighting to protect.

And now the clock is ticking, Stone hurtles from the solitude of a remote Welsh confessional to Glencoe – whose shadows still whisper of murder and betrayal – and on to Southern Spain, in an increasingly desperate quest to uncover the truth about a chain of events that began in the darkness of an Afghan hillside, and left a young man haunted by the never-ending screams of a friend the Taliban skinned alive.

Nick Stone’s most heart-stopping adventure yet will force the reader to recognise the thinness of the line that separates sacrifice from suicide, to share the nightmares that walk hand in hand with heroism – and to count the real cost of actions taken in the name of loyalty.

What a twist!

Where does For Valour rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I think it's as good as any but my favourite is still Firewall.

What was one of the most memorable moments of For Valour?

Where he is being chased by the Leather Men through London.

Which scene did you most enjoy?

I enjoyed the Serbian sniper scene and the chase by the Leather men.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. But as usual i finished too quickly and now I need more. MORE!!

Any additional comments?

Great ending and some gripping scenes take you once again into the surprising, volatile world of Nick stone.

Not bad

I found the plot to this one a little muddled. Lots of locations and characters, and the inclusion of a priest confidant was a bit out of character for Stone.

Well narrated

Enjoyed the story, although it seemed to jump about and was sometimes a bit confusing. Narration was good

Good storyline real pace

one of the better ones. Good story, but (there is always a but), for a man who spends so much time on trade craft he does get captured a lot.
And I understand the author has a deal with iPhone (and Timbaland, and in the past Gshock) but how was he been tracked all over Europe???? Oh he still has his iPhone with him duh!

Nicely done

Enjoyed this tale! It's mostly set at 'home' and not long-winded! Stone's come a long way, like that!

Oh how I've missed you Stone...

If you could sum up For Valour in three words, what would they be?

Andy Mcnab in all his glory

What about Paul Thornley’s performance did you like?

Paul thornley is the greatest narrator when it comes to playing a gritty, tough ex SAS solider. As far as I'm concerned, there is no point in casting any other narrator to play Nick Stone. I've have tried to listen to other narrators trying to play Stone, but Thornley is unrivalled in his talent for narrating for Mcnab.

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried with relief when the day finally came of Valour's release

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next Stone instalment. Mcnab is my favourite, so perhaps I am biased in my reviews of his books.

In this adventure, rather than the jungles of Colombia or the freezing conditions of Russia, Stone takes us through our very own green and not-so pleasant land, trying to unravel a mystery that has left men dead.

As ever, Mcnab's survival intellect and gritty storytelling leaves me wanting more. Especially from Nick Stone. I'm still coming to terms with the death of Kelly, almost ten books ago, so am hoping another form of relationship is possible for our good hearted hero.

As ever, a great listen.
