About this listen

Join the Phantom, Christine and Raoul in this unabashedly romantic sequel to one of the best loved stories of all time!

This sequel to Gaston Leroux's Phantom of the Opera begins just after Christine and Raoul leave the Phantom in his lair in the basement of the Opera House. After faking his own death to escape the Paris authorities, the Phantom sets out to find Christine again, eventually following her and Raoul to London. When a crazed maniac begins his killing spree not far from Christine's home, her life maybe in danger... In the ultimate test, will the Phantom put his life and his freedom at risk for his love?

And will Christine - desperate for song (which her husband, Raoul, has forbidden in his jealousy) - finally open her heart to the Phantom, as he desires?"

Intriguing!

For the Love of the Phantom by Davyne DeSye
My thanks to the author for this free audio copy in return for an honest review.
This is a very clever and compelling continuation of the original Phantom story. Here we see Erik has faked his death and manages to track and trace Christine and Raoul in an effort to win back Christine’s love. Erik’s determination is obsessive, as is his love for Christine, and through masterful disguises he woos and wins Christine’s heart.
Obviously that is a very brief synopsis of this amazing book. To learn more you will have to read it, but what I can tell you is that it is true to its origins and will be an absolute delight for Phantom fans everywhere.
The only thing I had problems with believing were how Christine managed to bed both Raoul and Erik without Raoul finding out. But I guess the long absences and his affairs could explain why he didn’t take much notice of his wife. All that aside, this is a great story, and I loved the inclusion of the Whitechapel murders – nice twist – all wrapped up in what appears to be a happy ending. But is it? I’m not sure because I am about to read book 2 so will have to let you know.

Perfect for Phantom of the Opera lovers

Thank you to Davyne DeSye for providing me with a free audiobook in return for an honest review.
A really interesting sequel to the Phantom of The Opera book, written by Gaston Leroux.

As a huge Phantom of the Opera fan, this story really gave some closure to the fangirl in me. DeSye's writing is absolutely beautiful and very poetic. I found this a lot easier to sit through than the actual Phantom of the Opera audiobook which I refreshed my memory with before starting this book. I did feel that Christine, Raoul and Erik's characters were also extremely close to how they were originally written.

I really enjoyed seeing the return of both major and minor characters from the book, obviously we have Erik, Raoul and Christine; but it was also very refreshing to have the return of the Persian and even Madame Giry at points of the book.
The history nerd in me was also thrilled when Erik found himself stuck in a very well known British crime (trying to hard not to give any spoilers) that never even occurred to me happened in this same time period! I really loved this.

I've heard a few times before that authors should not narrate their own books. Davyne DeSye definitely proved that theory wrong. She delivered this story with all of the emotion that she had obviously always intended.

I'd definitely suggest this for fans of the book (read the book if you're a fan of the musical as there will be parts that confuse you).

Beautifully Written & Riveting

For Love of the Phantom is a continuation of the hauntingly beautiful classic tale of the Phantom of the Opera. The story is brilliantly written, mysterious, suspenseful, and romantic. From the very start, I was riveted by the detailed imagery and the authenticity of the characters. Davyne DeSye is a phenomenal storyteller; her vocabulary is expressive and passionate. I absolutely loved her style and her ability to thoroughly engage her audience. The character development was spot-on, the dialogue was a smooth flow; literally, it was as though I was there in person, witnessing the scenes. For me, that's a big deal, and it's what gives quality to an audiobook. Generally, I'm against authors narrating their books, but Davyne DeSye performance was outstanding and very professional. She slipped into each character breathing life into them and making the story even more engaging. I thought her voice had somewhat of a noir quality that enriches the story perfectly. All in all, For Love of the Phantom, was a fantastic listen, and I practically enjoyed the ending. The book met my highest expectations and one I'm highly recommending.
