Most Annoying Voice to Marr a Good Story

Would you be willing to try another one of Amy Rubinate’s performances?

No! I'm not sure if she is truly Southern or attempting a Southern accent and failing miserably. Her voice hangs on the end of sentence and almost sounds whiny and nasally. Very irritating - the main character is from New York and I just don't imagine her being very whiny. The men in the book sound whiny with her voice reading as well.

Was Flight worth the listening time?

Sadly, no. I listened to it because I purchased it and wanted to use it, but the whiny, nasally voice was so irritating, it made it very difficult.

Any additional comments?

I try not to say negative things about something that is a part of someones makeup, in this case, Amy Rubinate's voice, but she should not be reading audio books.

Loved the entire series

Shifter romance in a college atmosphere. The main Shifters are birds but other shifters are in the books.

The first 3 books in the series [Flight, Focus & Found] are from Allie's POV & the last one[First & Forever] is from Levi's POV. I thought the last book [First & Forever] would be redundant since it was a recap of the trilogy, however, although it is from Levi's POV it also gives in depth details of what happened behind the scenes that are missed in books 1-3. Books 1-3 have a female narrator as they were from Allie's POV & the last book has a male narrator to go along with Levi's POV. That was an excellent choice & enhanced the books. Both narrators did an excellent job.

I loved the series because it was different from most shifter books. These are YA books so the sex scenes are not as detailed as other books. It was refreshing not to have every kiss, thrust & lick detailed. While the sex scenes are there they are described to leave most of it to the reader's imagination. While I enjoy the sex scenes in books because they are a part of the story many times less detail enhances the books. More plot less sex.

note: I didn't review the books separately because some were purchased from the source.

Disappointed

Great book if you happen to like men who disregard your wishes and trap you into a relationship, thus putting your life in danger. Strong controlling and mental abuse vibes.

Main characters could use some work

I didn’t like Alli or Levi. I found him to be sleezy and she was boring. The authors tells us they have an intense attraction but it had no substance. She seemed to always reject him and he came across as pushy and selfish. It wasn’t a bad book but I have no interest in knowing how they end up. Neither of them are charming or special and I rather think neither of them deserve to have a happily ever after.

What and why...

Although the story could be interesting, I couldn't enjoy it as much as I wished because of the narrator.
I'd like to understand how the tone has been validated to be published. The narrator seems to be between boredom and languish? I felt like listening to a story through a bubble and a lower speed that wouldn't change even if I tuned it.

Narrator aside, the story could be interesting. the premises want to change from the usual "normal MC with the sexy and rich male protagonist", however, seeing how the book finishes, I am afraid of what might come next.

The characters are not really described deeply. We just understand they are attracted to each other for whatever reason. Without spoiler, Levy's is not so much a surprise if we're used to this kind of story and I particularly dislike the word chosen to explain who's the MC to him. Please, find something more alluring...

I will read the second book instead of listening to it because of the narrator and will hope the story will change a bit of direction. I am not wanting a strong female lead character as she is not so much the type, but I wish she keeps her resolve of the end of the first book and will not lose it too fast.

Recommendation... I would say to absolutely try the sample before buying. However, as it is "free" thanks to Escape, sure, try it out.

Where does Flight rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've heard quite a lot of books here in Audible and I would rank it my tenth favorite book

Would you listen to another book narrated by Amy Rubinate?

No, not really her voice has no emotion and affects the story but maybe I'm just spoiled by Amy McFadden

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No, but it was a really interesting book, it really gives you a new perspective on this type of stories

I thought this book didn't really develop the story line very well and the relationship seemed a bit unreal or forced. I really think that this is just a copy of the Hush Hush Series. If you are looking for intense romance, hot boys and really amazing story i strongly recommend it.

Horrible narrator

I honestly can't judge the story because I couldn't finish it. I got maybe 30 minutes in before the horrific cadence of the narrator grated on my nerves too much to continue.

Stopped after first sentence. horrible narrator.

I am avoiding all books being read by this narrator. She lisps,.draws out the words and sounds just horrible. Never heard anything so bad.

cliffhanger

the story was interesting. I listened while doing other things so I may not be giving it full justice. I like paranormal genre. The story just suddenly stopped, though, so it was definately not finished at the end.

How can you get past the Narrator?

Would you try another book from Alyssa Rose Ivy and/or Amy Rubinate?

Maybe read the book by Alyssa Rose Ivy, but I don't think I could handle listening to Amy Rubinate. I think I am spoiled by Ellen Archer. Amazing narrator.

What do you think your next listen will be?

Hostage. Kay Hooper..lets hope for a good narrator

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

The story may be good, but I honestly could not get past the sound of the narrators voice. It just grated on my nerves.
