Summary
A novel of compelling suspense.
Professor James Lowry didn’t believe in spirits, or witches, or demons.
Not until a gentle spring evening when his hat disappeared, and suddenly he couldn’t remember the last four hours of his life. Now, the quiet university town of Atworthy is changing - slightly at first, then faster and more frighteningly each time he tries to remember.
Lowry is pursued by a dark, secret evil that is turning his whole world against him while it whispers a warning from the shadows: If you find your hat you’ll find your four hours. If you find your four hours then you will die....
“A classic tale of creeping, surreal menace and horror...one of the really, really good ones.” (Stephen King)

The Best of Hubbard
I have a very low opinion of Hubbub and his Scientology cult, but this is a fun listen. Hubbard's characters are cartoonish stereotypes, yet with this story it works well.
McDowall's over the top performance is a perfect match for this clownish, bizarre story.

Hubbard: Underrated and underappreciated
It is unfortunate that Hubbard will always be remembered first for cobbling together "Dianetics", and founding the Scientology movement. He should be remembered for being a terrific author. Read Slaves of Sleep*, Typewriter in the Sky*, Triton (if you can, it's rare and expensive), Final Blackout*, Death's Deputy--and this one, Fear, one of the first psychological horror novels (if not the first)--and you'll know it yourself. That guy could really write!
*Audible versions exist as of 2022.

Fear - Nice Novella
Story: This is nice novella that explores one thought. I was surprise by the end since it could have gone any way.
Reader: Nothing much to say about Roddy McDowall. His voice and acting are always superb.

Great story and a great narrator!
I absolutely LOVE Roddy McDowall & watch all his movies! Well you know I must've been stupified when I learned he had narrated stories! Fear is a very interesting story and I enjoy listening to it very much. Tis such a pity Roddy is gone from us but he lives on in my heart forever. Thank you so much dear Mr. McDowall for my Cornelius memories and your wonderful voice soothes me as I lie down to rest every night.
