Tony Hancock stars with Sid James and Kenneth Williams in the legendary BBC Radio comedy series. Created by Ray Galton and Alan Simpson in 1954, Hancock’s Half Hour was the radio vehicle that made Tony Hancock a household name. Each week listeners would be admitted to the sometimes fantastical, sometimes mundane life of “the lad ‘imself”. Aided and abetted by Sid James, Andrée Melly, Bill Kerr, and Kenneth Williams, Hancock would enter into the spirit of each episode with characteristic dolefulness.

This works for audio very well, because the scripts are so strong. Maybe like me you remember the television anyway, so what I found was that as I listened the scenes played out in my mind triggered by the audio.

I loved this as a kid and still love it now I’m old and a bit wrinkly. What I dearly love is the little clips of narration by Andrew Sachs, which link the visual funnies to your aural experience. The added interview with John Cleese before every episodes serves to further enrich this collection. Loved it so much!

Your mileage may vary but I enjoyed it
This is the audio from the TV series, a lot of which is quite visual comedy. This version is strategically narrated by Manuel to help with visual elements and some scene changes. I thought that worked rather well. Each episode is introduced with some comments from John Cleese about how the show was written.
As a package, then, it's reasonably well put together and worth considering if you're a fan of the show.

Simply the best British comedy ever!
The audio maybe not be as good as the real TV show, but still captures the essence of the British humour that is the characteristic of this unique British comedy that is founded on word-play and their ability to laughing at themselves. We all have met characters like that in the Uk in real life and therefore can relate our personal experiences with the shows! Simply timeless humour!

Comedy classic destroyed!
The recording is ruined by the decision to "improve" it for the uninitiated by adding adding a voiceover by "Manuel" explaining the sight gags. Terrible! It adds nothing to make the recording funnier for the novice and destroys it for the established fan. Also, although Manuel is a wonderful character, listening to his exaggerated stereotypical accent for long stretches is excruciating. To add insult to injury, Amazon/Audible would not accept it for return.

Check in for laughs at Fawlty Towers
Are you a fan of such things as Monty Python, Fierce Creatures and A Fish Called Wanda ? Then check in for some good laughs at Fawlty Towers ! Fawlty Towers is a show about an insane hotel owner, his wife, the crazy waiter , a waitress and the crazy patrons of Fawlty Towers.
Fawlty Towers premiered on Oct 25th, 1979 and was created by John Cleese. To me this is excellence at its best in comedy. 12 episodes of crazy and insane comedy that only John Cleese can bring. Only 2 series of 6 episodes each, in and out and simply with pure insanity.
This is good for like a 6 hour drive or even a rainy day or just something to listen to as you wind down from a tough day and you need a good laugh. If you are a fan of comedy and laughs , then pick up this excellent audiobook.
