Summary

When Bergen PI Varg Veum finds himself at the funeral of a former classmate on a sleet-grey December afternoon, he’s unexpectedly reunited with his old friend Jakob – the once-famous lead singer of 1960s rock band The Harpers – and his estranged wife, Rebecca, Veum’s first love.

Their rekindled friendship come to an abrupt end with a horrific murder, and Veum is forced to dig deep into his own adolescence and his darkest memories, to find a motive...and a killer.

Tense, vivid and deeply unsettling, Fallen Angels is the spellbinding, award-winning thriller that secured Gunnar Staalesen’s reputation as one of the world’s foremost crime writers.

I found this a slow read.

I found the very boring. Never any excitement. I will try again. I thought the plot had potential. Sorry.

Better than I thought

This is the first book by this author I have listened to & it was really enjoyable.
I primarily chose this book because it is narrated by Colin Mace as I find his tone, engagement and character voices really brings books to life for me.
I am now going to listen to the others in the series ... If you like the nordic style and can relate to the era the books were written - then I am confident you will enjoy this book too. (When I said ‘era’ - no mobiles etc!)

Dismal, pedantic

After enjoying the first Varg Veum book, Yours Until Death, I really wanted to like this series. But the first hour of Fallen Angels is a lecture on pop music history, and the body -- the center of the mystery -- doesn't appear until hour two. And what's with Varg's endless, irrelevant reveries on the girls he grew up with and their body parts? I was glad to be able to return this one.
