Siguiendo la estructura de una larga carta dirigida a un adolescente, el autor analiza algunas de las cuestiones éticas más esenciales para la sociedad actual: el correcto ejercicio de la libertad, la aceptación de la responsabilidad, la necesidad de la convivencia para poder vivir plenamente, la ineludible relación entre ética y política, el saludable deseo de disfrutar de los placeres y la obligada reflexión acerca de temas como la conservación del planeta o la realidad de la inmigración.
