About this listen

In an age of sail and cannon, where airships ply the skies instead of oceans, the Barbarian Kingdoms of Madraus are poised to start a war the likes of which the world has never seen, but they’re in for a surprise when they raid 16-year-old Esther’s village. While it’s a bad day for Esther when she gets captured after helping her family escape, it’s worse for the Madrausans, because now they’ve unwittingly unleashed a force upon the world that just…won’t…stop!

Esther is thrown into the middle of a plot to assassinate a King and she must decide what she is willing to sacrifice to try and save him, because when no one believes you, the fate of nations really does ride upon your shoulders.

The days of innocence are over. The days of hardship have begun.

When Esther a simple farmer’s girl from Ardmore is kidnapped by the scary and fearsome Madrausians after they invade and pillage her home it sets up an adventure of epic proportions. First she is taken on one of their airships where she endures unimaginable abuse. But it doesn’t stop her from escaping in a spectacular dangerous fashion. Soon after she learns that the Madrausians are plotting to kill the King of Hadiq and with Esther’s new friends it’s a race against time and an unexpected proposal may change her life forever. I got this as an audiobook and the action and the intrigue kept my attention. The narrator did a wonderful job bringing the story to life and i appreciate the breathtaking world building and the description of the airships that the characters travelled on were mind boggling. I look forward to reading or listening to more Esther.
