About this listen
A hero to some. A villain to many. The truth forever buried.
The man who became known as Esrahaddon is reported to have destroyed the world’s greatest empire—but there are those who believe he saved it. Few individuals are as divisive, but all agree on three facts: He was exiled to the wilderness, hunted by a goblin priestess, and sentenced to death by a god—all before the age of eight. How he managed to survive and why people continued to fear his name a thousand years later has always been a mystery...until now.
From the three-time New York Times best-selling author Michael J. Sullivan, Esrahaddon is the final novel in the Rise and Fall trilogy. This latest set of stories sits snugly between the Legends of the First Empire series and the Riyria books (Revelations and Chronicles). With this tale, Michael continues his tradition of unlikely heroes who must rise to the call when history knocks, demanding to be let in. This is the 19th full-length novel in a body of work that started in 2008 and spans four series.

Fantastic as always
This book answers so many questions and leaves you asking a few more. The new characters were engaging and it was good to see some old faces crop up as the book went on. Can't wait for more!

Great end to an exciting prequel
I have heard all of Michael O Sullivan books in the series Rhyria Revelations, Rhyria Chronicles, Legends of the First Empire and now the Rise and Fall Series. He has woven a world which aspires to the Tolkien standards. While he still falls short of the great master, it’s still an enthralling world he has built and I expect more novels in this world. Excellent narration as usual

Good story, but...
I liked the story and characters, and Tim's narration was great as alway. The things that really annoy me about Michael Sullivan's books are the author's note and the afterword. The last sentence has hardly finished or Robin Sullivan barges in with this load voice and completely spoils the drama of the end. Maybe it's just me, but I find that so off-putting. If it's a good book you don't need all that explaining and self-promoting. If I finish a book I want to be left with my own thoughts for a bit.

Read author’s other work first.
The author states at the beginning of the series that if you’re new to his work that’s fine because this series works as 3 stand alone novels. In short, they don’t. You can still enjoy the stories to an extent, but you’ll feel like you’re with a new group of friends listening to them reminisce and tell stories about years worth of parties, experiences and relationships you weren’t around for and have no knowledge of. This gets worse as the series progresses and is particularly frustrating in the third book. It’s a pity because the stories are pretty good and it’s an intriguing world. If the author hadn’t outright said that they work fine without knowledge of his other works I’d have probably read the others first. In my opinion he’s wrong and you should start elsewhere. Now I need to decide if I want to read his other work and try to untangle the threads or just move on.

More, please, Sir
I laughed and cried. Masterful writing. The characters and story and interwoven backstories are simply magical. Cannot wait for the next one. Don't make me get my begging bowl ;).

Perfection as always
Sullivan never disappoints, and Tim as usual brings the perfect story alive! It was a joy reading about Esrahaddon, which has been a mystery from the Riryia books!

I have never read better prequel work
Im always tentative about prequels, but Sullivan manages to write plots and character stories I could never have imagined, even though I knew the ending in advance!
