Summary

Most powerful leadership book I have read in years

This book is an amazing balance of human science knowledge, with vivid real life examples but most critically with practical steps that anyone can follow.

I admit that when I selected this tittle I already thought of myself as an ego free leader and that it would serve my confirmation bias to read it and be righteous but the book taught me that my perception was wrong. I reaction to pitches that threatened my ego and that lead to self for filling destructive behaviours. The book has allow me to reflect and restate my personal meaningful purpose and I am going to try to be better.

Not a bad book for ego free management

It’s a good book but I don’t think the book has to be as long as it was, it’s could be just as effective in a smaller format without the compromise of quality helpful listening, sometimes the structure chops and changes a lot which can make it hard to sink into a groove and effectively listen.
Having said all that I would and will listen to it again but it really requires you to sit alone and listen to this. Hard work absorbing the info whilst driving as it demands all of your attention.

Game changer!

Loved this book. Authentic and pragmatic in how you can change. Listened to it at at time when i most needed to. Would recommend to anyone, well those ready to take a good look at their behaviours. Hands up to the authors 👍

Relatable, honest, practical

I loved this book. I struggled a little at the start, but once I focused there were so many relatable stories and messages. What I loved most is the unapologetic humanity that Brandon shows - he admits that it's an ongoing battle, and that he still requires a moment to pull back from his inner voice/ ego to get to a constructive path.

one of the best books on leadership

loved this book. loved the story and it makes it easy to connect and understand how our unconscious bias sabotage our personal and organisational success. a must ready for every leader who wants to build strong company culture devoid of biases.

Thought provoking and helpful.

I read this for self development as a senior leader in a government department. Clearly operating in a different environment, but so many of the challenges described resonate with my daily experience. This book gives great advice which I can immediately implement, and things to reflect on moving forward. I want all my colleagues to read this book too.

invaluable resource

an extremely useful book that helps understand why we feel a 'pinch' and how to control them to better pull together as a team. with many similar challenges in my current role the examples given are helping me change my leadership style and work with other slt members to overcome these challenges. I'm confident these will help us go from good to great . thank you

The people who need to read this are the ones who won’t

Ego Free Leadership - what a concept! I enjoyed this book and it’s in my top 5 favorite leadership books.

I especially liked the concept of “pinches”, where a comment hits an emotion and you overreact. As a businessperson, I’ve encountered plenty of situations when my ego is hurt and I should react more appropriately.

Also, it’s hilarious how all companies are essentially the same - ops doesn’t trust finance, commercial doesn’t trust ops, and no one trusts IT. This book was a good reminder that we all face similar headaches.

Overall, an excellent book. I wish I could find ways to suggest it to some senior leaders I know without them brushing it off as though they don’t have egos.

Sexism and Racism apologists

I sat if this for a long time and the sexism and racist undertones toward Indian “team members” is very apologist. There is a point where a female team member was told “the ceo doesn’t think a woman can do the job” and we are told later that we should t be too quick to writing it off as discrimination then spends the next 20 min saying it was her fault. They tip toe around it and half address it, but definitely address it more directly then they did the apparent racist views of their US team versus the Indian team. It just spoiled the whole thing for me. Also no real actionable ways to do anything. In the whole book, it’s just a giant lecture except for the one time he says “here are three ways you can....”....I wanted more of that.

A Very Good Read. Thankfully, Read by Authors.

An impressive up and down story of a CEO, told by himself and his executive coach. Sometimes slow, but I always found it interesting.

Inspiring Story that Asks Everyone to have Empathy

I'm honestly sad I finished this book because I kept wanting to hear more about the clients the consulting company helps.
This book is business focused, however the concepts discussed throughout the story can be applied to any relationship where one seeks to truly connect with someone else.
Those who live Brené Brown, Simon Sinek, and similar authors will love this book.

A candid look at a CEOs career

This became more interesting to me as it went. This CEO allowed unprecedented access to his deepest thoughts and fears. An impressive level of access to a level of management rarely reached by norrmal mortals.

Worth the read

Best self-development book so far
