Summary

In the spring of 2012, Calum finds himself single again after his relationship of six years comes to an end.

Heartbroken, unhappy and unsure of what to do next, he leaves the hometown he has been in all his life to embark on a journey that takes him all around the world, from teaching in a school on the outskirts of Rome to exploring the sex clubs of Berlin, to raising tigers in an animal sanctuary deep in the jungles of Thailand. Along the way, he meets LGBT+ people from all walks of life and every part of the rainbow - from an Italian teenager struggling with a homophobic father to a kathoey navigating life as a trans person in Thailand, to a young HIV-positive man living on the streets of London.

Their individual stories, not only of hardship and sorrow but also of profound strength and hope, show the breadth and depth of queer life and experience, shedding light on themes such as homophobia, sexual violence, marriage equality and gender identity. Through these meetings and friendships, Calum not only finds the encouragement to embrace life after heartbreak, but also discovers a beautiful, loving global community who support and uplift him through the best and worst moments of his time on the road.

A travel memoir with a difference, Eat, Gay, Love is a celebration of the power of community and a personal tribute to the extraordinary lives of LGBT+ people everywhere in the world.

Breath taking

I have been a fan of Callum for such a long time now. Callum has always seemed to be a extremely private person! However I think Callum has really opened up in this book! So proud of Callum and he should be so proud of his self! He is a true LGBT+ icon and someone I genuinely look up to! Well done Callum and I hope we don’t have to wait too long to read/hear more of your epic adventures. ❤️❤️❤️

Enjoyable, but I wanted more.

Being a similar age and having similar life experiences to the author made this story incredibly relatable to me. It’s a good listen and Callum has a great story to tell, I just wish they had gone into more detail and spent a bit longer with some of the characters. I wanted to know more about Matteo, Giovanni and the kind people he met in India.

It’s enjoyable to read and it delivers a very important message, but I just wish the author had told us more about some of the wonderful people he has met on his travels.

Fascinating and inspiring

Calum is a great story teller. I found his adventures fascinating and really enjoyed all the different characters he met. This is a very inspiring and uplifting book that also manages to tackle some very hard challenges the LGBT community face worldwide in a very personal way.

Great story, lovely voice

It's so very relatable, even though I don't travel. This book does the traveling for you! Calum's voice is really lovely. He does regularly sound as if he's ending a sentence before it's time, but that's fine in the bigger picture.

Beautiful story

Calum invites you into his world and on a journey through his adventures and doesn’t leave you disappointed. Sharing his experiences with striking honesty and bringing you in.

I was hooked from the first chapter and whilst I listened at every opportunity, I was so sad to leave the book.

A wonderful story shining light on the LGBT+ community.

Lovely, Inspiring

Down-to-earth and honest, memoir & introduction to LGBTQ+ lives, in different parts of the world. Doesn't cover everyone but strongly celebrates diversity and doesn't shy away from the grim realities of homophobia and transphobia, while advocating for change. Loved it.

Amazingggg

This book really touched me as it deals with the actual experiences of gay people. Not the projection that many put forward as a facade of reality. An amazing book and I cannot wait for more from this writer ❤
