Entertaining and thought-provoking
Earthlings is a YA dystopian fantasy where the animals and humans have traded places, and now chickens, cows, and other animals, farmed, hunted, and culled, are out for revenge. The story is ethically thought-provoking with elements of humour and plenty of suspense!
We follow the stories of Peridot and Euan as they come of age and step into their roles in the new world. Peri has been raised on an isolated island and is completely ignorant of the old and new ways on the mainland. She has only ever eaten a plant-based diet and has zero awareness that people have ever eaten meet.
Euan has managed to escape the mainland and a life in captivating.
The audiobook has an array of character voices, my favourite being the chickens' hell bent of vicious revenge against the humans.
The rest of the cast are just wonderful, with the supporting cast being a particular highlight for me. I am not vegan or vegetarian, but I do try to eat meat conscientiously... The fantasy elements in this are excellent, but it does make you consider whether there is actually such a thing as eating meat without cruelty. When the tables are turned, it's impossible to deny how barbaric the farming industry is.
I'd 100% recommend this audiobook and plan to read books 2 and 3. I am gutted they aren't currently available in audio format but that cliffhanger leaves me no choice

🎧Audio Book Review🎧
Earthlings

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
At the beginning of March this year, I was lucky enough to be able to read the third and final book in this, The Earthlings trilogy.
Having read all three books over the last couple of years it was really great to be able to re-read this first book in the series - over 2 years since I first read it!
I remember at the time, I didn't read a huge amount in this genre and I was a little apprehensive to say the least - but within the first few chapters, I was completely hooked on Peridot's story and have remained so through the whole series.
This first book gives a brilliant introduction to the series and is packed with action and excitement, showcasing this new world and Star's amazing ability to draw you into this unique and enjoyable storyline.
I loved all the magickal elements and the gentle way that Star educates about working with nature and looking after the world and everyone in it!
This audio book was just fantastic and I loved the dual narration - especially Alan's voice!
The narrators do a great job of portraying the characters in an authentic way and exactly how I'd imagined them when first reading this.
Here's my original review too.....
In the first few pages, I really wasn't sure about this one. Diving straight in with a situation that seemed so alien to what we know, just made me wonder whether I was going to enjoy this. But I have to say that this feeling completely disappeared once I got into the story proper.
This book is fast-paced, intriguing and exciting throughout. Star, having a wonderful way with words and a writing style that just carries you along with ease.
Our main characters are super relatable and I found myself completely invested well before things turned dystopian.
Not normally my favourite genre, I have to admit that I am now totally hooked and cannot wait to read more of Peridot's story.
As a crystal seller and lover of all things magickal, I absolutely loved the inclusion of all the rituals, and natural healing and working with the elements within the story. Also finding the tips and messages about improving our own environment informative rather than judgemental (as in some other writing)
Overall, a great plot which is beautifully written.
Cannot wait to read book 2 in this trilogy....and more from this author.

Thrilling, impactful and beautifully written story
This story explores a world where animals get the upper hand and enslave humans in retaliation for their treatment throughout history. It also brings in elements of earth magic (magick) and mythology with certain humans being gifted witches/warlocks with the ability to manipulate the powers of earth, air, fire, water, and Spirit. Peridot is the female protagonist who has lived a sheltered life on a remote island who then learns what has befallen the humans in the outside world after a boy called Euan turns up on the island. Peridot discovers that not only is she a witch but an Elemental which is rare making her very powerful and import to humanity’s future.
When Euan is unexpectedly put in danger, Peridot leaves her protected home to rescue him. She encounters a hostile environment in the real world created after the uprising of the animals which shocks her to her core. On her journey of self-discovery while rescuing Euan, Peridot will have to choose sides, harness her powers, and find allies if she wants to ensure her survival and helping to change the fate of the human race.
I listened to this book and the narrator was brilliant at bringing the characters to life and pulling me into the plot right from the beginning. I was intrigued by the premise of this book as animal welfare is deeply important to me. This book was beautifully written and portrayed the plight of many animals in the world today. Twisting the narrative on its head and attributing the meat industry’s processes on humans drives home how bad the practices can be and how much pain and suffering the majority of farmed/factory farmed animals/birds can endure. The author references the documentary Earthlings in her afterword, and I felt it was a very relevant to this book. It was such an impactful documentary to me that I switched to being Vegan overnight. I loved Peridot as she went from blissful ignorance to shocked awareness and instead of running away from the truth, she headed straight into danger to save those in need. The use of magic and communicating with animals was creatively done and added depth to the story. As this book ended on a cliffhanger, I eagerly await book 2.

A beautiful start of a series for all animal lovers!
What a beautiful start to this fantastic series! Earthlings:The Beginning is the first book in the Earthlings series and after finishing listening to the audiobook, I’m now desperate to dive into book 2!
Hats off to the narrators Albion Byrd and Paul Hunt for such an amazing experience!
Although fantasy is a genre I don’t read often, I was instantly hooked by the description, involving magick and animals and the connection to nature. As a vegan, an animal lover, a worshipper of Nature and a nature conservationist, this book has everything I love and more!
The world building is amazing (and credible too if I’m honest), the characters are well rounded and evolving as the story goes and the action is fast paced and compelling.
I love Peridot, and I must say that her relationship with her mum is so similar to my mum and mine, that I really felt for her. I also loved how the author managed to let us readers fall in love with Euan and his friendship with Peridot, to then abruptly take it all away very cleverly.
I can’t even begin to praise what the author has done with the animals and their behaviour, and the situations they have put the humans in. The only way for humans to understand what we do to animals every day, is to make them experience it and this is superbly executed in this book. I have to say that although chickens in particular are the enemy in this story, I 100% understand their behaviour, and don’t blame them one bit. As it’s mentioned in the book, they learnt this from us and how we treated them, and when your experience of life has only been violence and abuse, you can only go on to behave the same, and exact revenge whenever the occasion presents itself.
If you love fantasy books with animals, magick, elementals and familiars, framed by a wild world building and full of twists and action, this is a great series to add to your tbr! I know I’ll be buying all the books!
Thanks to the author, The FCM Group publishing and Insta Book Tours for the opportunity to listen to it and this is my honest opinion.

A fantastic book brought magically to life.
I had no idea what to expect from this book when I first read it. But WOW! That was some read and this series has become one of my ABSOLUTE favourites.
So I was very excited when this released as an audiobook. The narrators did a fantastic job bringing the characters ters to life. I adored The duel POVs in this, especially the familiars.
There was something so very different about the whole idea of this book, combined with the authors writing and the way it made me feel.
Think a dark, coming of age dystopia read with added magic, animals, found family and a completely twisted new system of rule for the world.
The prologue of this book just sets you right off knowing this book is something else and I was more hooked with every page I tuned.
I loved the FMC Peri, and how she dealt with finding out that EVERYTHING she thought was real in the world, wasn't. Her strength, kindness and determination was a really important part of this story and had me routing for her all the way. Hearing her 'voice' really added to an already amazing book.
So many extra aspects of this story that were brilliant. The HUGE twist in the world, the dogs as her familiars, and Peri's relationship with Euan.
I whipped through this. Like raced through it.
Highly recommend this one!

Entertaining, thought provoking, and brilliant narrators
I was able to read this wonderful YA fantasy trilogy over the past few months and adored it, and now I get to relive the experience with the audiobook of book 1.
Even though I knew what was coming from the story, the two narrators did an excellent job of fully immersing me into the chaotic world, building up the suspense and drama, giving personality to each character, and really bringing to life all the animal voices.
I love the balance of humour against the darker themes, and the narration really pulls you into it all.
This book definitely makes you think about morals and ethics in terms of animals, farming and consumerism, and flips the narrative on humans. It's a dark and thrilling journey about self discovery, magic, survival, loyalty, and empathy.
I would definitely recommend this audiobook if you want to start the series, and have a truly entertaining experience with the animals voices, especially the sinister chicken Alan.
