Summary

A society hostess entertains her husband's mistress to dinner; a country girl savours the delights of city life; a student faces the dilemma of unmarried pregnancy; and a drink-ridden photographer tries to relaunch his shattered career.

A vintage collection of four stories set in the heart of Dublin's fashionable Southside, Dublin 4 has all of the author's intimate grasp of human feelings, and her marvellous ear for dialogue.

Beautifully crafted and beautifully told short(ish) stories

Binchy is a wonderful story teller. Her prose is eloquently crafted, she weaves such detail into seemingly simple sentences and her characters are beautifully constructed.
Dublin 4 tells four discrete stories all set in the Dublin 4 area, each one a stand alone story offering a snapshot of life in this particular postcode. There are no conclusions, the stories offer glimpses into people’s lives and leave you wondering.
They are also beautifully narrated and it was such a pleasure to listen whilst meandering through the streets of Dublin - the perfect travelling companion for my visit.
I will listen again and would highly recommend.

Great Stories

They were great stories but no real endings to them. They cut off but the build up means you have a fair idea of what the endings would be. Sometimes when the audio book transitioned into the next story I got a bit lost as I hadn't realised that it had moved on
