Summary

Ein Dorf in der kirgisischen Steppe zur Zeit des Zweiten Weltkrieges: Hier begegnen sich die verheiratete Dshamilja und der kriegsversehrte Danijar. Der betörende Gesang Danijars zieht die lebensfrohe Frau in seinen Bann, sie kann sich ihm nicht entziehen und verliebt sich in ihn. Damit bricht sie mit allen Konventionen. Ihr junger Schwager, der sie vor Männern schützen soll und auch eigene Gefühle für die schöne Frau hat, lässt das Paar gewähren. Doch als Dshamiljas Mann aus dem Krieg zurückkehrt, eskaliert die Situation und die beiden Liebenden müssen das Dorf verlassen.
