Summary
Discovered after more than 40 years, a vintage action-adventure novel set on Domino Island – a Caribbean paradise toppling under murder, corruption and organised crime…
‘Like a dream come true – an undiscovered Desmond Bagley novel … and it’s a great one!’ LEE CHILD
Bill Kemp, an ex-serviceman working in London as an insurance investigator, is sent to the Caribbean to verify a life insurance claim that will make property magnate David Salton’s young widow a very rich lady.
As Kemp begins to discover that Salton’s political ambitions had made him a lot of enemies, and that his friends are reluctant to reveal themselves, local tensions around the forthcoming elections spill over into protest and violence on the streets – and murder.
Is this all a deliberate smokescreen for an altogether more ambitious plot? And who is the enemy in their midst? As events begin to spiral out of Kemp’s control, even his army training seems feeble in the face of such a determined foe.
Discovered after more than forty years, Domino Island is a vintage tour de force by one of the world’s most successful thriller writers.

Excellent thriller
A real treat to have this so ably completed after all these years. This is an excellent thriller, and the narration was very good indeed, the whole thing had a fine pace and energy. Hannay and Kemp are a great investigative duo, it would be brilliant if this turned into a series for them.

Superb find beautifully narrated.
I won’t spoil the story but the narration by Paul Tyreman is fluent and colourful and he captures the spirit of what is obviously based on the Bahamas. This is a great story about skullduggery among the political class...or is it?

Enjoyable Old School Thriller
Mr B wrote great stories in the 70's but now seems a bit overlooked and forgotten. This runs along at a decent pace, is not too taxing, and has an interesting setting. Narrator has the most annoying habit of dropping "g"s an the end of words but is otherwise very good.

This one should have remained forgotten
This is probably Desmond Bagley's weakest book.
After a few hours I started to wish it would end. It was just boring. It was just like a bottle of ketchup. For about nine hours nothing much happens then it all comes out.
Do yourself a favour and skip this one.
One I can recommend is "Fly away, Peter". That one is an adventure.
