Summary
E. T. A. Hoffmann beherrschte alle Spielarten der romantischen Literatur. Seine Erzählungen kreisten vor allem immer wieder um das Unbewusste und das Fantastische, aber auch um die Verlockungen und Gefahren der Künstlerexistenz. So legt der Matrose Elis in Die Bergwerke zu Falun seine bürgerliche Existenz ab und folgt dem Ruf der Bergkönigin. In Ritter Gluck dagegen wird der Erzähler durch einen Sonderling in das wahre Reich der Musik geführt und in Rat Krespel verbietet eben dieser Rat seiner geliebten Tochter das Singen, da sie daran sterben würde. Erzählungen, die unterschiedlicher nicht sein könnten und damit die ganze Bandbreite des Schriftstellers zeigen - gelesen von Hugo R. Bartels.
