Summary

Everything's changing for our friendly neighbourhood serial killer. As if getting married wasn't enough to complete his nice-guy persona, Dexter is now the proud father of a baby girl. And, disconcertingly, he actually seems to care.

But even if fatherhood is distracting Dexter from his midnight excursions to rid Miami of a few more lowlifes, there's no let-up at work. Two young girls are missing - and it's not long before one of the bodies turns up partially eaten. But as Dexter and Miami PD's finest investigate, Dexter can't shake the feeling that somebody's watching him....

Had to stop listening…

Rita is awful in this book. She literally finished one sentence in the 1.5 hours I listened to this. It was so annoying, that even after however many books there has been so far, I just could not continue. Luckily, Debra was missing for most of this time, because if her demanding, inconsiderate attitude was present also, and Dexter continued to obey her every command like he has done in the other books, I doubt I would have made it past half an hour… Shame.

Read by the Author

Jeff Lindsay reading his own novel is just brilliant, all the dark and meaningful inflections and undertones, just brilliant. totally absorbed by his voice bringing Dexter to life more than the CW network. I have listened to the first 5 books back to back and just immersed myself in Dexter's dark world, so expertly read, this is definitely my favourite installment of Dexter's adventures so far.....Bravo!

Avoid if possible

This latest edition in the chronicles of Dexter is the worst by far. Totally cartoonish and unrealistic in every way with dialogue and situations that are as unlikely as they are unenjoyable to listen to.

All The Fun Of The Fair

Delicious is right. A different Dexter but with his newfound family commitments, still dark and so very delicious 😋

brilliantly written, brilliantly read

Read by the author himself, you can really hear the different charchters in his voice. Of course the overall Dexter monologue is perfectly done. Highly recommended!

Launching Lovely Lilianne

Dexter is changing. He's married now with two step children and a new baby of his own. And he takes his family responsibility very seriously. So seriously, in fact, he is deliberately rejecting the call of his Dark Passenger.
But life is funny, isn't it? It has a way of turning things around: so,, in pursuit of the quiet life, Dexter finds himself contending with not just nappies and car runs, but also missing girls, pseudo vampires and murderous cannibals as well as his ever angry sister and the sudden reappearance of an undesirable uncle for his children. Poor Dexter - it's never easy when he tries to be good.

Of all of the stories so far, I found this one the least (I hope!) believable. But the sheer pleasure of seeing the world from the Dexter perspective, the sardonic humour and inspired writing ( no hairs standing up on the back of the neck here; instead there is the "slow creep of uneasy toes along my spine") all voiced by the author himself, is a delight too good to miss.
