Summary

When Private Investigator Kate Marshall is rushed to hospital after being pulled into a riptide current in the sea, the near-death experience leaves her shaken. During her recovery, she befriends Jean, an elderly lady on the same ward. Jean tells the harrowing story of how her three-year-old grandson, Charlie, went missing 10 years ago during a camping trip on Dartmoor.

By the time Kate is well enough to go home, she's agreed to take on the case, but when Kate and her trusty sidekick, Tristan, start to look at the events of that fateful night, they discover that Jean has a dark past that could have put Charlie in jeopardy.

Was Charlie abducted? Or did he fall into Devil's Way, a rushing river that vanishes into a gorge close to where they were camping?

When Kate and Tristan discover that a social worker who flagged concerns about Jean and her daughter was found brutally murdered shortly after Charlie vanished, it makes them question everything they thought they knew about the family....

Filled with twists and turns, Devil's Way is the fourth Kate Marshall novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet!

Reader ruined the story

I loved the previous 3 books but have been struggling to even get through the book with the new narrator. Kate’s voice was awful in this book, ruined all images I had had of her. The whole reading was a massive disappointment. It spoiled a good story.

The narrator ruins a great story

The narrator constantly puts the wrong emphasis on words, which is very annoying and distracting, the delivery is also a reminiscent of a church sermon, in places. All the other robert bryndza books are narrated by Jan crammer too, which is incredibly disappointing. I am sure some listeners disagree, and the author must like her style, perhaps she is a marmite type of narrator. I also wonder if these titles are churned out with virtually no editing or "proof listening" recorded in home sound booths.
It doesn't help that the previous narrator of this series did at least know how a sentence is constructed and was so much better at delivering action and excitement.

Don't bother

I have struggled through the series and only through my stubbornness have I completed them.
I'm not involved in the law in any way shape or form but even I know that the police procedure described in this book belongs in a fantasy novel not a crime drama. seriously, save your credit. its not worth it.

Poor narrator

Don't like the narrator at all, shame after having listened to the previous three books. The story itself was as good as in the previous books.

Disappointed

Story line was ok but felt the narrator was very poor. To much lilt in her voice and I felt at times I was listening to a minister

believable

I thought this was a very easy to listen to book with a believable plot. Unlike most of his books, this was not too gory and grusom.

ROBERT YOU RUINED IT

THIS WAS A REALLY GREAT STORY LINE BUT TOTALLY RUINED BY THE CHANGE OF NARRATOR AND ALL I COULD HEAR WAS DI ERIKA FOSTER SO DISAPPOINTING. I HAVE NOTHING AGAINST JAN AS A NARRATOR BUT SHE IS ERIKA FOSTERS VOICE SO IT RUINED MY ENJOYMENT OF WHAT WAS A REALLY GOOD STORY WITH TWISTS AND TURNS. DONT DO IT AGAIN ROBERT KEEP YOUR CHARACTERS WITH SAME NARRATOR FOR AUDIO BOOKS PLEASE

Gripping story but disappointed by narrator change

I’ve really enjoyed these Kate Marshall books but the change in narrator definitely affected the enjoyment of the story. I think Jan Cramer should read cosy crime - her voice is not suited for more gritty stuff & her narration of Aide was painful. Please bring back Kristin Atherton for the next one!
