Summary
When Private Investigator Kate Marshall is rushed to hospital after being pulled into a riptide current in the sea, the near-death experience leaves her shaken. During her recovery, she befriends Jean, an elderly lady on the same ward. Jean tells the harrowing story of how her three-year-old grandson, Charlie, went missing 10 years ago during a camping trip on Dartmoor.
By the time Kate is well enough to go home, she's agreed to take on the case, but when Kate and her trusty sidekick, Tristan, start to look at the events of that fateful night, they discover that Jean has a dark past that could have put Charlie in jeopardy.
Was Charlie abducted? Or did he fall into Devil's Way, a rushing river that vanishes into a gorge close to where they were camping?
When Kate and Tristan discover that a social worker who flagged concerns about Jean and her daughter was found brutally murdered shortly after Charlie vanished, it makes them question everything they thought they knew about the family....
Filled with twists and turns, Devil's Way is the fourth Kate Marshall novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet!

Narration is not good
I liked the story and all the Kate Marshall series, but the narration seemed to fit a children story and not a thriller

good story
great storyline, only negative is they have changed the narrator. I love Jan Cramer but in a series you associate voices with characters.
still highly recommend.

Horrible narration.
I love the story and all the Kate Marshall-series but this new narrator spoiled it for me. She has no sense 8f intonation, no feeling for the characters or for the language as such! I almost DNFed it. please please bring back Kristin Atherton!

I loved this book!!
I’ve listened to all of the authors book and his DCI Erika series is narrated by Jan Cramer and there’s usually another narrator for Kate Marshall however I found that I enjoyed Jan Cramer far more (no offence intended) just my opinion. I listened to this book in 2 days!!!! If it wasn’t for work I’m sure that I would have listened in one day it’s that good!! I can’t wait for more. Thank you so much Robert Bryandza.

Irritating narration
Great story but the narrator ruined it for me. I had to increase the speed she was talking so slowly and drawn out. That meant everyone else eas speeded up.

Ruined by narrator
Story was good but narrator was completely unsuitable for the story. Sounded like she was reading a children's book

Not the same narrator that has narrated this series
I love this series and was waiting for the this audiobook. As I started to listen I noticed right away that it was NOT being narrated by Kristin Atherton who has done the series from the start. I tried to listen, but can’t get past chapter 3 with Jan Cramer. She is not Kate Marshall. She makes her sound whiney and weak. I’ve heard her narrate other audiobooks and she was great but not for this series.
Dear Mr. Bryndza - if you’d like for me to continue with this series audiobooks you need to redo this one and any future Kate Marshall books with Kristin Atherton. Thanks!

I preferred Kristin Atherton’s narration
Another great Kate Marshall book, but Jan Kramer’s narration is just too precise for these characters and the accents felt over the top. Kristin Atherton, who did the previous Kate Marshall books, did a much better job of voicing different characters.

This a first for me
I follow this author and was excited about this new title, Devil’s Way. HOWEVER, I don’t think I can finish the audiobook with this narrator. I am used to Kate Marshall being a strong woman. The way this story is being read I think I am listening to a fairy tale or child’s story. She is all breathy and pauses in the oddest places.
It may not be the narrator—could it be the producer/director? Is she being told to narrate this way. If so, it is painful.
I did notice that this narrator did the Erika Foster series. I know I did not have issue with her reading that series. Anyway, this is a first for me because I have never had to take issue with a narrator. But, again, maybe it is the way someone instructed her to read. If so, it does not benefit the story or the characters.

Predictable and lousy narration
I’ve listened to all the books in this series, and found this to be the most predictable storyline of all the books which is rather disappointing. The narrator for this one also made Kate sound like whiney weak old woman and Tristan like an angry man. If you’ve read the previous books, that is not who the characters are. I was disappointed. I finished it because I have a hard time not finishing a book, especially when it is part of a series I’ve invested so much time in. I hope the next one will be better.

Persevere in spite of the narration...
Awful choice for a narrator. But don't let that stop you from listening. Except for the poor choice of a narrator, the usual wonderful Kate Marshall story.

Excellent story and writing!
Why did they change the narrator!!?? While it was okay, I was used to the other narrator and I felt she changed Kate and Tristan's personalities with her performance....
