Der Autor Hermann Löns (1866-1914) zeichnet ein eindringliches Bild eines der dunkelsten Kapitel der deutschen Geschichte. Mit seiner Erzählung von der Selbsthilfe der Bauern macht er aber auch Mut und zeigt, dass man sich erfolgreich gegen Willkür und Unterdrückung wehren kann.
