Summary

After decades of unrequited love, this kangaroo will jump at the chance for a date. Any date.

Lovelorn kangaroo shifter Hamish Mulherne, drummer for the mega-hit rock band Hunter’s Moon, waited years for the band’s jaguar shifter bassist to notice him. Instead, she’s just gotten married and is in a thriving poly relationship. How is Hamish supposed to compete with that? But with everyone else in the band mated and revoltingly happy, he needs somebody. Since he can’t expect true love to strike twice, he signs up with Supernatural Selection. Because what the hell?

When Zeke Oz was placed at Supernatural Selection through the Sheol work-release program, he thought he was the luckiest demon alive. But when he seems responsible for several massive matchmaking errors, he’s put on notice: Find the perfect match for Hamish, or get booted back to Sheol for good. The only catch? He has to do it without the agency’s matchmaking spells, and Hamish simply will not engage.

But Zeke starts to believe that the reason all of Hamish’s dates fizzle is because nobody in the database is good enough for him. And Hamish realizes that his perfect match might be the cute demon who’s trying so hard to make him happy.

Drumbeats for Love and Victory

Demon on the Down-Low concludes the Supernatural Selection trilogy arc of the Mythmatched World Series. The Mythmatched World starts with the Fae Out Of Water trilogy arc and then the Supernatural Selections arc, and has continued to expand in the next arc titled simply Mythmatched. I highly suggest reading all these books in order for maximum enjoyment. There is so much rich world building and significant character introductions. However, each book is written for a new reader to still enjoy the main characters and plot.

I loved this book. I love this entire series. I’ve been rooting for Zeke in the previous two books and I’m so happy that he finally gets his true love and happy new beginning. Hamish is hilarious and his devotion to Zeke was intense. This book was filled with humor, action, drama, and a wonderful romance.

The audiobook was narrated by Greg Boudreaux who does a fantastic job. Greg was the perfect choice of narrator for this series and made all the books come to life. I loved how he performed each character and made them feel distinct and real. The audiobook quality and production were very well done.

Hamish and Zeke!

Story: Overall the story was enjoyable. At some parts I was confused with all the extra characters but I was still able to follow along with it alright. This was my first kangaroo shifter book so that was nice. I think I may start this series from the beginning since I skip over the first 2.

Narration: Greg really made the story for me. This narrator can read the dictionary and I will listen to it with joy.

Loved this one

I was immediately caught by the story of a kangaroo shifter in a rock band and a demon in a matchmaking service who continually messes things up and the story and its performance did not disappoint. Hamish and Zeke are wonderful characters on their own, but when Zeke gets his last chance at the matchmaker's to find a perfect match for Hamish, watching them both realize they are the perfect match for each other was delightful. As always, the performance by Greg Boudreaux captured the fun and whimsy in the story without missing any of the emotional connection between the characters.

Fabulous end to a fantastic series

I’m always blown away by E.J.’s creativity. Her supernatural world is ever-expanding, and I’m loving it. I knew about Hamish the kangaroo shifter. Bandmate. Friend. Lonely guy. And I knew about Zeke as well. Poor demon who works for the Supernatural Selection Agency – the place where Supes can meet their mates. Of course Zeke messed up the last two (or did he? Those men seem pretty darn happy.) The system is down for maintenance, yet somehow Hamish’s profile appears. Zeke is obliged to find him a partner – even though he doesn’t have the first clue who might be appropriate.

Zeke is on a work release program from Sheol. He lives in the upper world, but his privileges may be revoked at any moment and he’ll be headed back to Hell. And living is a relative word – he can’t actually go out and interact with people. He’s not allowed to eat their delicious food. But if he can find Hamish a mate then he can keep his job. Right?

Hamish is a pretty easy-going guy. Except he’s in love with a fellow bandmate who is absolutely not in love with him. To put her out of his mind, he’s willing to try this dating thing. The problem? Zeke’s suggestions are unsuitable, and the more time Hamish spends around Zeke, the more he wants the demon for himself.

Now, plenty of hilarity in the book. Bachelor party, concerts…and the two men falling deeper in love. Zeke is clueless, but Hamish is patient. Then Zeke is forced away and it’s up to Hamish and his Supe crew to find him.

Of course my happy ending was never in doubt, and I loved seeing all the characters from the previous books. Tickled pink. And finally I’ll mention Greg Boudreaux. A fantastic performance pulling in all the different characters and all their myriad accents – Hamish is a kangaroo shifter, so naturally Aussie. I don’t know if there are more books to come, but I do know I’ll seize any E.J. Russell audiobook that falls my way.

Demon on the Down-Low

I adore this series. I love the whole extended world. I loved seeing so many glimpses into past characters. Russell did a great job balancing that while ensuring Hamish and Zeke got a complete story. And what a story it was. I loved this listen. This was one of my favorite Boudreaux performances. The accents were phenomenal. He lived up to the hype with this listen.

Excellent

Loved this. I've been reading the Quest Investigations stories where Zeke is part of the team so I knew a little of Zeke's background. But this is Zeke's story, his path to freedom and true love. The first half of the book is fun as Zeke tries to find Hamish's perfect match, the second half is fraught with dangers for both Zeke and Hamish.
There's plenty of characters from the other stories in this series and adjacent series. I've read enough books in this universe to know everyone and most of their stories. I think anyone coming into this as a standalone might suffer but for me it was great.
As for the narration, Greg was excellent as usual and even with a massive number of characters I was never confused

Loved it!

This is one of my favorite series and in all the whole Universe the author wrote there is not better character than Zeke. His sweetness, cuteness, innocence and purity of soul in spite of being a demon simply stole my heart. He and Hamish have a lot of chemistry and it was lovely to witnessing them overcoming every obstacle in their way to be together. As in the other books in the series, Mr. Boudreaux made a wonderful job showing us again his great acting skill and beautiful voice. The best in the series so far! loved it!

My favourite couple

’ve read all books in this series and just some of other, so I was a bit lost sometimes with names from other couples as always I’m with this author.
Nevertheless, I think they are my favourite couple, so cute. Hamish is… not picky, and Zeke is adorable, they’re a good match.
It’s not just they story about how they got together, they subplot is very interesting and unexpected. Better read/listen the whole serie, three books, but can be listened to as standalone.

«"What" you are isn’t as important as "who" you are. At least that’s how I see it».

Fantastic Finale

Demon on the down-low wraps up all the story threads from the previous 2 books but also adds in storyline from the other mythmatched books. I admit I haven't read or listened to them so I'm probably missing out but it didn't diminish my enjoyment of the story at all.
I had to listen to this when I realised it was Zeke's story since I was pretty sure where the issues with the matches was coming from. While I was right, there were still some surprises along the way.
Hamish was a great match for Zeke and I loved the slower burn of their relationship and how they sort of dated first.
As always, the narration was fantastic, Greg Boudreaux is one of my favourite narrators and there were plenty of opportunities to showcase Boudreaux's range here. Moving from serious, emotional, funny and steamy scenes with ease.
Now to go back and read/listen to the other Mythmatched books
