Summary

Harry Dresden, Chicago's only practicing professional wizard, should be happy that business is pretty good for a change. But he also knows that whenever things are going good, the only way left for them to go is bad. Way bad. Recent examples: A duel with the lethal champion of the Red Court, who must kill Harry to end the war between vampires and wizards...Hit men using Harry for target practice...The missing Shroud of Turin - and the possible involvement of Chicago's most feared mob boss...A handless and headless corpse the Chicago police need identified...Not to mention the return of Harry's ex-girlfriend Susan, who's still struggling with her semi-vampiric nature - and who seems to have a new man in her life. Some days, it just doesn't pay to get out of bed. No matter how much you're charging.

Probably one of the best in the dresden files

A great performance by Masters and yet another wonderful expansion into a wider world by Butcher.

Another great book.

This is another great collaboration between Jim Butcher and James Marsters .
With Harry's usual friends and foes and a couple of new ones thrown in to the mix

Another great performance by James Marsters

Throughly enjoyed Death Masks, just another great book in the Dresden Files saga written by Jim Butcher and then brought to life by talanted voice that is James Marsters.

Butcher does it again!

Story - 5/5

Yet another superb addition to the Dresden files. This series just keeps getting better and better, with the action, world and characters constantly stepping it up a gear each time. I can’t see how he can keep this up for another 10 books – but I will definitely be finding out.

There’s not really a whole lot else to say that I haven’t already said in the previous book’s reviews, but I would definitely recommend reading them in order for the gradual progression they give. Although my urban fantasy read pile isn’t that large, Dresden is by far the best amongst it so far. The wit, humour and the sheer epic magnitude make it really stand out.

Performance – 5/5

Another masterful and flawless performance from James Marsters, and I am glad to see that he narrates all of the later books too – as he IS Dresden in my head, and it would be too disruptive to not be him. He is a brilliant actor, performing the book and dialogue beautifully to fit the mood that Jim Butcher has created.

marsters the master

Marsters the master again, the author seems to be enjoying a power fantasy at this point but the voice of James Marsters makes this tale an epic one.

Great

Great story, well read and as always James is brilliant. 15 word minimum is a pain, not that vocal.

5 stars should not be given likely

I find the modern trend of 3 stars is Meh to be weird. To me 3 is good 4 is excellent and 5 is reserved for special occasions.

This book is a 5. I sat and and thought wow when it was over. As a person who has read and listened to a many books, I can write that this does not happen often. Maybe 1 in 30.

I loved the previous book in the series, but the first 3 titles were a 3 to me story wise. Here the characters are set, the interesting aspects of the supernatural laid out, explored while still keeping the ammount of adrenaline inducing moments to a max. It's quite the feat to pull of without fizzling out.

If you are reading this far you will know that I am not providing many details about the book. The reason is simple. Are you new to this series start from a previous book. If you listened or read the previous ones you already know if you will like this. It's more of the same style, just much better paced and interesting. I have one gripe. The author is beyond cringe when describing, let's call it eroticism, scenery. It's just bad. Fortunately that is less than 0.0001% and does not diminish this excellent story at all. Do you feel lucky punk?
