Summary
Brought to you by Penguin.
How do you cultivate braver, more daring leaders? And how do you embed the value of courage in your culture?
Written and read by NYT best seller Brené Brown, Dare to Lead answers these questions and gives us actionable strategies and real examples from her new research-based, courage-building programme.
Leadership is not about titles, status and power over people. Leaders are people who hold themselves accountable for recognising the potential in people and ideas and developing that potential. This is an audiobook for everyone who is ready to choose courage over comfort, make a difference and lead.
When we dare to lead, we don't pretend to have the right answers; we stay curious and ask the right questions. We don't see power as finite and hoard it; we know that power becomes infinite when we share it and work to align authority and accountability. We don't avoid difficult conversations and situations; we lean into the vulnerability that's necessary to do good work.
But daring leadership in a culture that's defined by scarcity, fear and uncertainty requires building courage skills, which are uniquely human. The irony is that we're choosing not to invest in developing the hearts and minds of leaders at the same time we're scrambling to figure out what we have to offer that machines can't do better and faster. What can we do better? Empathy, connection and courage, to start.

Brene is always good, but this felt like a repeat
Brene is always good and I love that she read the book and delivered it more like a seminar than a straight read, more discourse than lecture. However, having read all her previous books, I felt that this was an amalgamation of her previous books rather than fresh information. I agree that good information is worth repeating but I could have done that by rereading her previous books rather than buying this one. Lots of summaries of previous advice, lists, definitions and actions. So overall I was rather disappointed.

VERY LITTLE NEW IN HERE
I love Brene's previous work - have gobbled up Power of Vulnerability, Daring Greatly, Gifts of Imperfection - but for those of us seasoned in her work there is little new in here. There is also extensive use of language that doesn't lend itself to an International audience - "rumble" drove me mad!!! In the UK rumble is a noise it is not something you do with a team! Plus other such phrases as "paint done for me" - I get it, but it just doesn't work for me.
I look forward to Brene doing some new research and to her sharing her inspirational insights with us all, rather than rehashing the old stuff under the new guise of Leadership.

I wish every Leader would read this book!
This is one of the best books on leadership I have ever read! Brene gets to the very core of what true leadership really is, and she willingly offers great examples from her own life and research
and stories from leaders many of us admire. I am a great admirer of Brene and her important work!

Love Brene 100%
Was soooooo excited to download Brene’s
latest book as have and practiced them all but was, honestly, disappointed as I listened to it. Super tactical - which is very important - however with a title of Dare to Lead, I was hoping for something else. Anyways learnt a few new things so nothing lost but not what I thought it would be xxx

This book will be my bible
I laughed and I cried listening to this immaculate example of how leadership can be. My hope. It becomes the blueprint for every future leader. My promise to myself is to share and practice this learning with my children, friends, colleagues and clients. And sprinkle this magic everywhere I go. My gratitude cup is overflowing today.

Totally awesome book - loved the audio so much and think it was so much better to have Brene Brown as the narrator too - ended up getting the paperback too! Definitely recommend for all Leaders!

Terrible listening due to constant ‘rumbling’
Throughout the book there is constant use of the phrase ‘rumbling’ or to ‘rumble’. Makes it unbearable to listen to the content. A total waste of money or a credit as far as I am concerned. How a well respected author falls foul of such a simple oversight is puzzling to me.

Best one since Shame & Vulnerability. Superb!
Loved this book. Really powerful and useful tools to improve not just leadership skills but life skills and communication. Great content, easy to listen too and well explained skills. Comes with corresponding literature and worksheets which are available from the website. This is my favourite book since her original Shame and vulnerability. A must read! I prefer the listening versions as you hear Brene Brown reading it and it has more depth as her personality warm voice and personality shine through. I would recommend.

Great leadership summary of her work.
I’m a big fan of Brene Brown and read all her work since the gift of imperfection. I really enjoyed Dare to Lead as it puts it in a business context. It’s a good summary, and also a leadership book you can share with people that would shy away from books about shame and vulnerability. Thanks Brene.

One of the best books I've listened to.
I enjoyed every bit of it, I love the fact that is read by the author and it's not just a read book, but a conversation Brené is having with the listener.
Now I am looking at courage differently and leadership looks much more fun by the daring to lead rules. I believe it is a must listen for anyone, and especially to leaders, at any level, in any kind of organization.
