*Guilty Pleasure*
**4.5 Stars**
I read all three books years ago and even saw the film versions, this was just pure indulgence for me.
*Fine Things*
Bernie Fine always gave his all when he approached things. He started working in a large department store for extra cash and before he knew it he was managing the store. He was sent to open the San Francisco branch and set it up. He was on a roll in his work life but his private life and his choice of unsuitable women left him hollow. One day he meets a curious young girl called Jane lost in his store. They eventually track down her mother Liz and then starts a growing friendship which blossoms into so much more. Life could not be any better until one day Liz’s ex and father of Jane throws a huge spanner in the works. In time Bernie will experience heartache and unbelievable pain, will he ever recover and move on with his life…
*Jewels*
This is the story of American Sarah Whitfield, she is reflecting on her life and as she looks back she cringes when she thinks about her first marriage that only lasted a year. With persuasion from her parents she decides to take a trip to with them to Europe.
She meets William the Duke of Whitfield, 14th in line to the throne. He is considerably older than her but love knows no bounds. They are smitten. They decide to relocate to France where they start to restore a dilapidated chateau all the while with the threat of war. They both know with the war now a certainty William will have to leave to do his part. When this becomes a reality, Sarah’s love for him is tested to a degree that she never sees coming. William is missing at war but she never gives up on hope.
As time goes on war ravished people needing money decide to sell their treasures to her for money. As the collection grows, the birth of the first store opens called Whitfields.
There is heartache, an important reunion and betrayal, children are also in the mix.
*Vanished*
This is the story of Marielle who is married to Malcolm who was her boss. This is not a union of love but it will do as when she did fall in love in the past the pain and the volatile relationship was too much to bear. She has many secrets but she is not the only one. When she finally gets pregnant she is overprotective of her new son and often to an extreme.
She has a very difficult time in the house as none of the staff in the home help or take any notice of her. But her priority is her son. One day her heart is ripped out of her as worst fears are realised her son is missing.
Who is behind it… how deep does the scenario go… her shocking past comes out and it is used as a weapon to prove her unfit including her spending time in an institution. Is her past betraying her or is it happening in plain sight…
