About this listen
'I absolutely loved D is for Death - mischievous and Mitford-esque and tender' ALEX HAY
1935. Dora'son the first train to London, having smuggled herself out of the house in the middle of the night to escape her impending marriage. But unluckily for her, Dora's fiance is more persistent than most and follows.
As Dora alights at Paddington station, she is immediately forced to run from the loathsome Charles Silk-Butters. She ducks into the London Library to hide and it is there, surrounded by books, where she should feel most safe, that Dora Wildwood stumbles across her first dead body.
Having been thrown into the middle of a murder scene, it's now impossible to walk away. Indeed, Dora's certain she will prove an invaluable help to the gruff Detective Inspector Fox who swiftly arrives on the scene. For as everyone knows, it's the woman in the room who always sees more than anyone else: and no one more so than Dora herself...
D is for Death heralds the launch of a brilliant historical crime series that marries the quality of Dorothy L. Sayers with the ingenuity of Janice Hallett - and in Dora Wildwood introduces a character with the spark and gusto of Enola Holmes and the detective skill of Miss Marple.©2024 Harriet F. excellent 1930's detective novel
Well, what a lovely surprise! I came across this and, being fond of Agatha Christie, thought it might be fun. It was so much more. Beautifully written and perfectly read, it was a wonderful book, stylized in the 1930's detective genre. I'd never come across the author and after reading around abouts, found it to be Harriet Evans' new book in the first (of hopefully many) more. The blurb said it was a mix of Enola Holmes and Agatha Christie, which is exactly the case. Dora is a great main protagonist, full of pluck with some interesting additional characters in support. I really hope that there are going to be more written. Very enjoyable. Definitely recommend.

D for Death
I read a recommendation in a women’s magazine and thought it would be something I would enjoy. Set in the 30’s a murder mystery not too gruesome, in an Agatha Christie style.

Very enjoyable read
Loved this story. Main character was Dora was brilliant. The overall enjoyment was spoiled by the narrator’s swallowing noises. Very off putting

What a joy!
Can’t say how much I enjoyed this audiobook. The wonderful combination of quirky humour and emotional depth was unexpected. It wasn’t so much the plot as the narrative journey that kept me enthralled. I so hope there will be more!

An absolute delight
A beautifully written homage to the classic murder mysteries of a bygone era with a very modern voice all of its own. I loved it.

Excellent!
Thoroughly enjoyed this book! Felt it had more to it than the normal ‘cozy’ murder mystery! Looking forward to the next!
