Summary
Welcome to Eddie's Tavern, the only functioning waterhole in a near-dead town. Twin Peaks Without The Charm.
** I received this audiobook in exchange for an honest review.**
If you grew up in the 1990s, you might have seen a little tv show called "Twin Peaks" about a strange little town with deep, complex characters and more than enough secrets, lies, murder, and supernatural elements to give anyone a headache.
This is how Currency Of Souls feels. Except somehow, there's no charm here. no likable characters, and it all feels somewhat random and disjointed.
I really thought I'd love this. It's got everything I usually go for. but it just feels too long, too drawn out, and way too many crazy and bizarre characters popping up all over the place to keep track of.
The characters themselves are incredibly well written, and Kealan Patrick Burke is one heck of a writer, but the story itself doesn't satisfy, choosing to launch into brand new scenes instead of finishing off the old ones.
Rich Miller shines in his narration. One of the best readers I've ever listened to, his portrayal of the Sheriff is a highlight of the book.
Overall, this is probably deeper and darker than you expect, and much like the inhabitants of Eddie's Tavern, you might be wishing it was all over long before it is. But if you're prepared for what awaits you, then pull up a chair and enjoy.
