Critic reviews

“The best Will Trent novel yet from the aptly named American.” (Picked as one of the Telegraph’s top ten crime books to take on holiday)
“Karin Slaughter has carved a career out of thriller writing... her prolific sales have seen her on the best-seller lists for more than a decade. She has brought to life a murderer whose depravities will test even the hardest of hearts.” ( Press Association )

Just Awesome !!!

I loved this story right from the start. The intreaging characters, excellent use of humour, and riveting storyline, all wrapped up in mystery and suspense. Karin Slaughter is a genius author, and has excelled herself yet again.
As always the narration was awesome, much admiration goes to Jennifer Woodward, whose voice I could listen to all day.
All in all, this was a real pleasure to listen to, and I would highly recommend to anyone who loves a gritty drama, with a rollercoaster of romance and emotional bindings. Fabulous!

half decent overall

narration was a bit irritating - the southern accent & excessive emphasis on every sentence, no matter whether significant or incidental.

Found the story a little difficult to follow at first, and the characters hard to identify. But it suddenly picked up pace in the second half

Tied a few loose ends up

This book is very good, it filled all the gaps in Will Trent's life which was useful. Good story and a cracking listen

Excellent writing

A very well written, and narrated, story consolidating several of the characters from the Wilk Trent series

Great story

Amanda Wagner takes the lead in this gripping book that fills in Will Trent's back story. Slaughter loves to concoct violent and disturbing murders, and this story does not disappoint. Jennifer Woodward is again excellent in her narration and brings the characters to life.
I can't wait 'til the next one.

Great book, annoying main cahracter.

What does Jennifer Woodward bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you had only read the book?

She is not an amazing narrator but she does a good job. Her accents seem accurate and unlike a lot of her peers, her male voices are believable.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I think there were several moments which were supposed to move me but to be honest I find Will's constant angst a little tiresome. Quite frankly, with his complete inability to keep his emotions in check and his total disregard for anyone he cares about, he is the most distinctly unlikable character I have ever tolerated.

Any additional comments?

I really like these books, despite the fact that Will Trent and I seem to be having a metaphysical personality clash. I'm probably being unfair but what few believable aspects of his character there are, are singularly unappealing. Don't let this put you off however as this story is absolutely worth getting your teeth in to.

Brilliant!!

If you could sum up Criminal in three words, what would they be?

Absolutely brilliantly written!!!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Amanda - gruff, outspoken but with a heart of gold! She should have adopted Will.

What about Jennifer Woodward’s performance did you like?

Very enjoyable to listen to, you always know who is speaking. She has a myriad of accents to call on and she is very clear and concise in her diction. Superb!!

Did you have an emotional reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Oh yes very definitely.

Any additional comments?

Just a first class read.
