Summary

Often considered one of the first ever psychological thrillers, Crime and Punishment is a gripping tale of a poverty-stricken young man in Saint Petersburg, Russia, who hatches a plan to kill someone for money. Once the deed is done, he finds himself racked with guilt, confusion and disgust for his act.

In this new recording, Will Poulter (Detroit, Midsommar, The Maze Runner) gives new life to the troubled protagonist, Rodion Raskolnikov, in a performance that will have you questioning where we draw the line between right and wrong.

Interesting story, fine performance

Well worth a listen. Some excellent passages, brilliant observations and an insight into the Russia of the time. My only criticism is the difficulty with the Russian names in their various forms. Will Poulter does a fine job of the narration.

Accents

Excellent story. I just don’t think we need an accent from each city ,town and county from the uk as the characters voices. Apart from that it was great.

A Classic

A brutal but beautifully written account of life I Russia, has much changed?
I enjoyed the characterisations, the accents meant you knew exactly who was speaking, challenging with so many Russian names and patronymic.
A really good way to access this major opus. Thank you.

Remarkably written, and read

It was honestly amazing, such contemplation over justification for what is crime, and who can get away with it. It delves deep into regret and remorse, and the lies we tell ourselves to justify our actions

A definite masterpiece

The way Dostoyevsky writes is simply of a genial level. The character's psychological portrait is highly complex and marvelous, it left me open mouthed with all the vivid details. This definitely deserves 6 stars out of 5, just impeccable.

Took a while to warm up

At first I had trouble warming up to Will Poulters performance but after a while I quite liked his work. Not sure what to think about the story itself though. Just going through the classics.

Faultless audio version

Pretty sure I don't have to rate the book, history has given it five stars. Will Poulter just nails his performance, nuance, brings real personality to each character through expression and accent. Can't fault it 22 1/2 hours I'll happily hear again.
