Summary
Cora's a young girl with two dreams: to be a dragon jockey when she grows up and to own a pet dragon now. She constantly buys "egg packs" at the dragon emporium in hopes that one will hatch into a rare pet-sized dragon, but only gets short-lived mayflies. However, when an unexpected egg does develop into something new, Cora may be over her head.

Pleasant
I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
This was a pleasant enough middle school book about childhood dreams. It had a nice message, but it could be a little boring at times.

What kid doesn't want a pet Dragon?
H L Burke did a fantastic job of writing this from a child's point of view the quote "Out of the mouths of babes comes to mind". Ok firstly let me tell you the basic framework of the story:In Cora's world Dragons are as cats and dogs are to us.Beloved louse pets. The larger Dragons are taking up the roles that horses play in our lives and Cora...Cora wants nothing more than to have her very own pet dragon !She wants to be dragon rider when she is alll growed ups but for now,now she wants a pet dragon. So Cora tries with the eggs she buys ,unfortunately all she is getting are mayfly dragons which I'm sure you can guess from the name are very small and short lived. The dragon eggs ae sold by the adults to the rich to try to limit if not abolish dragons in the wild. When Cora is faced with her hearts desire,a dragon of her very own, she begins to realize that what the adults have been doing is wrong and that people shouldn't own dragons they should be wild and free.Cora is as much her dragons human as her dragon is her dragon. With this realization comes a falling out with her father.I loved this book I have listened to it 4 or 5 times I put it on when I babysit as a bedtime story .Big mistake the first time but after they had heard it once they felt safe and always wanted it when they went to sleep. My friend who I babysit for has bought it and said they listen every night .Sheri Sheridan did a superb job of bringing the pages of wonder, fantasy and heartwarming creativity to life.I was voluntarily provided this review copy audiobook at no charge by the author, publisher and/or narrator. This review,as always , is my honest opinion.Beautiful.

My 8 year old daughter loved it
It was very entertaining and not too young or mature for her. The collecting of the eggs reminded me of all the current mystery box toys out now which she is huge fan of that and Pokémon .lol and the racers, being like race horses , which she also loves was great addition and held her attention as well. We would definitely be interested in more similar stories or titles by this author or others who write these types of stories. We finished it in 3 nights. So not too short but not ultra long it really held her attention. I was given this audiobook in exchange for honest review.

Every child wants a pet dragon
Would you consider the audio edition of Cora and the Nurse Dragon to be better than the print version?
I believe audio is becoming the choice method for people too busy to read a book, but I still love to turn pages and I'm sure kids do too. The producer of this book was very good.
What did you like best about this story?
From grandparents who sang "Puff the Magic Dragon" to the parents who grew up with "Pete's Dragon," we each have had a dream at some point of coming face to face with a mild-mannered dragon who would befriend us. Cora and her friends live in a world where dragons are common house pets, and the larger ones have replaced horses at the races. What a delightful world it is, filled with dragons as small as a Mayfly to those the size of a house cat. But there are the rare larger dragons and kids can be involved in a lottery game to see what type of dragon they will get for their precious coins. The problem is that the eggs typically only produce the Mayfly dragons who live a very short life. The laws are meant to eliminate dragons in the wild and support the lavish lifestyles of the wealthy by making them a commodity. I loved the fact that Cora and her friends were able to see the injustices created by the adults and their dedication to protecting those things meant to be wild.
What about Sheri Sheridan’s performance did you like?
The performance was good, but I felt like it lacked the kind of excitement a young person would feel reading this story. It was a solid performance, but I could only give it four stars because I couldn't feel the excitement in her voice.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I was touched so much by the moment when the bully showed his weak side. Anything more would be a spoiler.
Any additional comments?
I had purchased the ebook several months ago, but hadn't had a chance to read it yet when the author offered an audible code. The timing was perfect because I was going to have some eye surgery and wouldn't be able to work for a few days. This is my honest review of the audio book.

Sweet story about a girl who loves dragons
~Disclaimer: I received a free audiobook copy of this book~
This book has a lot of positive messages for middle schoolers about life.
Cora is an interesting character and is likeable. The characters are given a surprisingly large amount of depth considering how short this book is. H.L. Burke's books continue to impress me. I feel like I'm a fan at this point.
I think fans of Bruce Coville's books would likely enjoy this as well.
The narration is decent. Nothing amazing, but it isn’t bad either.

Very cute, heartwarming story.
I loved this book. It's not very long, but it's an adorable story and really enjoyable. The narration sounded a bit too fast at first, an sounded a bit off sometimes, but overall it was good. Loved the ending too, definitely made me tear up a bit.

A Sweet Kids Fantasy with an Old Fashioned Feel
I got this book for free. My opinions are my own.
This is a book that is definitely aimed at a younger crowd, and therefore might not be right for all adults. I, however, read a lot of SFF for all ages and really enjoyed it. It was well paced & just the right length for the story, although I wouldn't mind a sequel that picks up after the Epilogue (which I loved).
HIGHLIGHTS:
-- A great friendship between two young girls (the best friend participates in some hi-jinks, but it is made clear that she would go to parents if there is real danger of harm)
-- Good relationships with parents, who are also involved in helping to resolve the conflicts
-- Adorable dragons (of all types and sizes)
CONTENTS (for those who care): Minor bullying (resolved) / Mistreatment of animals (not by MCs) / Some violence & a death (not descriptive) / Minor Christian elements / Themes include whether or not it is appropriate to break a law when you think it is wrong
NARRATION: Sound quality not the best, especially at higher volumes / Narration style unpolished / Speed ok (my usual 1.25 was a bit slow) / Summary = It was acceptable

How to hatch your dragon
Did you know that all dragons start out the same? If the eggs are intended every dragon egg will hatch into a short lived and tiny mayfly dragon. But when tended by a nurse dragon, the eggs can hatch many different varieties of dragons.
This is what Cora discovers when she finds a lone egg one day and hatches a unique dragon.
What a fun story world. Picture the 1920's but with a shop that sells pet dragons and instead of horse racing
it's dragons they ride.
This is such a fun story, perfect for the whole family to enjoy.
The narrator Sheri Sheridan delivers a great performance which brings the characters to life.

Dragons!
What an absolutely wonderful story!
Cora is a young girl from the wrong part of town who loves dragons. The local Emporium sells a box of dragon eggs for a penny and Cora buys one whenever she can. However, all of the eggs hatch into Mayflies, the smallest and most common dragons.
When she rescues an egg from her nemesis, Xavian, it hatches into a brown dragon like nothing Cora has ever seen. She and her friend, Abry, decide to start a business using Cricket's skills in making the eggs hatch, little knowing the trouble that will cause.
The story is great for young and old alike. There is plenty of love and loyalty, a bully who finally becomes a friend, and Dragons! A lot of good life lessons for young children (and adults as well) in a thoroughly engaging story.
The narrator did a great job and the writing is excellent. I love this book and think that any child who gets the chance to read it will remember it for a long, long time.
