Summary
Next to the death of a loved one, the ending of a relationship is the most painful experience most people will ever go through. Coming Apart is a first aid kit for getting through the ending. It is a tool that will enable you to live through the end of your relationship with your self-esteem intact.
Originally published in 1987 and continuously in print since then, Coming Apart has been an important resource for hundreds of thousands of people experiencing the pain and stress of a breakup. This new edition features a foreword by Katherine Woodward Thomas, author of Conscious Uncoupling.
Daphne Rose Kingma, the undisputed expert on matters of the heart, explores the critical facets of relationship breakdowns:
- Love myths: why we are really in relationships
- The life span of love
- How to get through the ending
- How to create a personal workbook for finding resolution
Time does a lot to heal our broken hearts, but really understanding what transpired in each of our relationships is what allows us to finally let go and move on.

Dissatisfied
Although the book does make some valid points regarding relationships and how we sometimes may put too much pressure or expectations on them, I felt as if the author diminishes romantic relationships and almost supports the idea that relationships are just temporary and should be just that, stay until you’re not happy and move in to the next

Cannot believe this book is for free. Easy going but profound insights gave me the tools to ease my pain, accept my reality, find another meaning in my relationship and also justify me desicion to move on.
You have to listen it either you are single, in a relationship or exiting one!

Title does not reflect the content
Although these relationship narratives and explanations of the origins of difficulties in relationships are helpful for insight and reflection, the issue of a broken heart (the sadness, grief, and longing that go along with the feelings of brokenness are not addressed. If the point is helping through this difficult and painful transition, then exactly those issues should be addressed and how to cope with grief. It also would help to have guidance as to how to transition into living alone.

ONLY read if you are 1000% sure it's over
This book is for people who absolutely do not want to be w/ their ex again. This book preaches that every relationship that ends is supposed to end forever. It can be disheartening for people who are simply on a break and the relationship still has some life and can reconcile. So if you completely want to move on to another person - sure read this.

Narrator sounds so nasally and whiny.
it was so annoyingly repetitive. seriously giving the same examples over and over and over again in different ways without a single pause. just filler bs. worst was that the narrator was pretending to be that person complaining so you literally were listening to her whine in different ways over and over again. unbearable

Bored to Tears
Suffered thru this read. The voice had no real emotion and just droned on and on. There might have been some substance, but I couldn’t focus because of the speaker. And there were many parts that were duplicated. Waste of time.

Didn’t really help me.
I frequently found myself thinking what the hell? This book basically just tells you that your relationship is over and to not waste your time trying to work on it.

what a wonderful divorce guide!
having gone through a divorce and read many other books at the time, I think this book is a kind guide to understand what happens. The author has a real sense of what needs to happen and being in the last stages of the grief I found it compelling and refreshing.

If you do the work, this book will help you
First, let me say that this book is written to address, traditional, male, female relationships. If you are in that type of relationship and you either suspect it is ending, or it has already ended, reading this book will help you. It is very straight forward, and includes some not so easy to listen to truths. The biggest of those is, relationships do not last forever. So eventually, you are going to have to go through a break up. With the help of this book, you can come to see that even a break up that you didn’t want, Ken be good for you. I strongly suggest doing the exercises, although most people probably won’t. It is very time consuming, and it brings up a lot of emotional issues. However, I assure you that, if you do the work, you are going to feel much better about your situation. Even if you don’t do the exercises, this book is just good, practical validation of what people experience when relationships end.

Finally a book that helped me.
The way this book approached a breakup really spoke to my situation. It made me realize more things about my relationship that were wrong more so than any of the other books I’ve gone through.
