Summary

The six works of ancient Chinese philosophy in this volume are the product of four great philosophers: Confucius, Lao Tzu, Sun Tzu, and Mencius. The men who produced these profound writings all lived between the 8th and 3rd centuries B.C. They were translated into English by Lionel Giles (The Art of War…which includes his annotations for ease of comprehension), and James Legge (the remaining titles). The titles and their approximate starting times are as follows:

The Tao Te Ching(Lao Tzu) – 00:00:00

The Art of War (Sun Tzu) – 01:34:00

The Analects (Confucius) – 06:44:00

The Great Learning (Confucius) – 10:36:00

The Doctrine of the Mean (Confucius) – 10:57:00

The Works of Mencius – 11:48:00

Listeners who may find themselves in need of aids to comprehension are encouraged to follow along with the printed versions in order to more efficiently navigate these recordings. All translations are in the public domain.
