Summary

In 1941, the United Kingdom was in desperate straits, standing alone with its troops against the colossal war machine of Nazi Germany. There was always Prime Minister Winston Churchill, however, who growled his defiance to Hitler and induced in his people a determination to endure.

The Adams family shared that determination and their own kind of optimism. Emma went happily into her marriage with Jonathan, while Boots' son Tim, in between his hazardous exploits as a Commando, helped his fiancée, Felicity, in her courageous fight against blindness, the result of a terrible injury in the bombing. Rosie Adams was due to marry Matthew Chapman from Dorset, but Chinese Lady was unsure about it. He seemed a fine enough man, but what with a lame leg that prevented him from doing his bit for his country, and the uncertainty of his garage business, she felt that he was hardly the ideal choice for such an eligible young woman as Rosie. As for Boots and his new wife, Polly, they came up with some very unexpected news for the family.

excellent

For a series MJ S managers to bring in fresh stories all the time, having lived through the 2nd WW in London I can say it's very authentic. posh Polly is growing on me, though I'd would rather that the author killed her off not Emily

It’s getting a little boring now

And there isn’t the humour now that there isn’t as much about Boots and Sammy. Eloise is incredibly annoying and there is no way she would have got away with speaking to her superiors like that. I will go on to listen to the next one but if it’s as slow I won’t be listening to the rest. Excellent narration as always

What can I say, I am addicted

Am addicted to these stories, still don't like Polly & it would be interesting to see someone else moving in on Boots as she did. Such an amazing family.

Brilliant book

Love all of this books sometimes though I feel that the author shouldn't keep on reminding us of what happened, I'm sure if most people have got this far in the serial we know what happened to Emily ect..
I'm glad that the narrator has been kept the same throughout the serial as well as changing narrators in a serial of books can be very annoying as some narrator's can change some characters to be unrecognisable.

As good as the rest!

I know this series is about the war and Great war (1stww), but
there was too much about it in
this book as far as I am concerned. Also too many deaths and injuries, but that's what it's meant to be about.
The Adams family and outer members and friends suffered
too many injuries etc.

‘Said xxxxx’

Well delivered. Personally I found ‘he said, she said’ was distracting. Many characters. Nice storylines which I have no doubt are expanded in following books.

Bored

Getting bored of the serious now, I loved the series up to now but I really don’t like “polly”.

Annie aldington is my favourite narrator but we do not have been reminded constantly who is talking in a
conversation really did become unbearable I just couldn’t listen to anymore. “Boots said” “polly said” anyone would get who was talking don’t need to be constantly reminded I got to chapter 13 and had enough.
I may give in another try but I doubt it. Felt disappointed as just didn’t seem to flow as well as the previous books the earlier ones were definitely the best.

it's getting a bit boring now

I've really enjoyed these books and the narration has been fantastic. Sadly I'm starting to get bored with these series now as for the last few books very little has happened. It's WW2 but it's being dragged out in the most tedious way. Not sure I'll finish this series with another 15 books to go.
