About this listen
When an 83-year-old woman dies, she is not transported straight to heaven. She is taken on an unexpected detour back to her life shortly before she died. Only this time, she is seeing the world from a different point of view. This is the first time she has ever experienced a detour being the best part of a journey.

Charming Christmas Story - Good for the soul
Such a beautiful and heartwarming modern Christmas story, with just the right touch of magic. It's always unique to hear a book read by the author themselves. A wonderful tale, and lovely read by Aimee Alexander

A well told tale...
This is a beautiful short and snappy tale that will give your heart a lift. The person who reads it-I think it's the author herself-has a buoyant and melodious voice that helps the story bounce along to it's wonderful ending. Well worth checking it out.

Checkout Girl wins at Christmas
Would you consider the audio edition of Checkout Girl to be better than the print version?
Christmas Eve 1989 the story starts and Aimee Alexander, the author, does a fab job reading her Christmas tale. Enjoyed the music with it and the tone of this charming piece. It's a modern ghost story but the old lady's voice is very believable. "I've never been one for detours' she says …and it gives us that magical sense of good things can happen when we notice the world around us and the small, often unnoticed kindnesses. Thanks Aimee.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love the little girl and Aimee's voice for Debbie's child is brilliant.
Which scene did you most enjoy?
The scene where they are doing the lottery numbers - hilarious and beautifully done.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
it's very short and ideal for that drive home on Christmas eve - would have a lovely radio reading.
Any additional comments?
The music is beautiful. Really adds to it.
