About this listen

The definitive biography of Liverpool legend and most famous Egyptian footballer in the history of the sport, Mohamed Salah.

Salah's achievements are, in many ways, unparalleled. A Champions League and Premier League winner, he is a two-time African Footballer of the Year who straddles two worlds. The first is the continent he comes from, as well as the Middle East. The second is Europe, where he has broken all sorts of goalscoring records at Liverpool, helping him to become the most identifiable Muslim player on the planet.

And yet, despite his consistent success on the pitch, record-breaking playing, team victories and popular persona, little is known about the Liverpool forward, or the competing forces around him. That is, until now.

Award-winning football journalist and author Simon Hughes expertly pieces together a fascinating portrait of this enigmatic football icon. From his relationships with his teammates to what motivates him; from how the events of the past decade in Egypt have impacted his life, to what's next in his career - Chasing Salah reveals all.©2024 Simon Hughes (P)2024 Hachette Audio UK

A really good read if you’re into the context behind one of the best players of recent time. The research behind this book is absolutely astonishing. You could not find a better, more knowledgeable account of Salah, whether it be his upbringing, his relationship with his agent, his time at Chelsea, his struggles and wins at Liverpool, his religious beliefs, conflicts with teammates and contract issues. What a well rounded book. I would advise anyone who wants a solid understanding backed up with valid sources of Salah to read this.

Really enjoyed the subject matter as a Liverpool fan but the orator is truly awful. Like him on the Blood Red podcast but as himself reading his own work like a robotic sixth former reading out loud to the class uncomfortably is a painful listen indeed. I recommend buying the actual book and reading yourself if possible.

Hughes doesn’t overreach, but does very well in getting across the complexity of character behind a goalscoring legend. As a Liverpool fan, I enjoyed getting a peek behind the scenes of what makes an extraordinary footballer from an extraordinary background succeed at the very highest level.

Well researched
