Pretty good and informative.
This suited me. A lot of information packed in for an area that I’m interested in. It is what it says on the tin, a reference book.

Villanelle was right: this was BORING!!
I felt sorry for the narrator. I'd listened to him reading 'The Bible for Dummies', and enjoyed it. He caught the humour and relayed it competently. However, with this work, I felt nothin0g but irritation. It was swamped by interminable lists, of rules and regulations, of saints, of popes, of colours of vestments ... yawn ...
I thought, at one point, that it might make a good primer for some poor sucker wanting to convert to Catholicism, or for a pupil studying for a UK GCSE in Religion at a Catholic school, but then I wondered if they might be asleep if they'd managed to make it past the first few pages. My personal entry into this title, at the age of 63, having been brought up as a child in a rabid Roman Catholic setting, and lapsed when I was 15, was a mature wish to enlighten myself about the Abrahamic faiths. I warmed as I listened to the descriptions of Judaism and the Torah, but this attempt to describe Catholicism left me cold. I was transported straight back to memories of parish priests in black suits, with the faint, but tell-tale odour of stale, unwashed clothes, booze and fags, which was re-enforced when I looked back and checked the authors - all reverends in the institution.
It would have been more enlightened on the part of Wiley to have enlisted the efforts of one or two lay Catholics, to give their views of real life, post Vatican II, on the Pill; LGBT, politics, etc, from an RC perspective. There was a token section on Pope Francis, but I think the whole work needs to be re-written. In fact, I've realised that, in the way this title has been offered as an 'all-in-one' publication of 5 'books', it reflects the Church's bungling efforts over time to cobble together the canon of gospels ...
If you're on the way in, go for it; if you're looking for an objective account of Catholicism (in the context of the Abrahamic faiths), this is not the book for you.

so boring
I struggled to get halfway it was like someone reading out a list of rules and regulations. I had hoped for an explanation (a sensible one at least) but nothing doing.
