Story
I couldn’t believe it when I got the call to offer me my dream job. It was right in the heart of the city with a flat provided. I jumped at the chance, and within days I had made new friends and began dating a wonderful man. For the first time in years, I feel safe. But soon strange things begin to happen in my flat: odd noises in the night, the feeling that I’m being watched. When I discover an old dress hidden behind my wardrobe and wear it to work, the atmosphere chills instantly. The dress belonged to a girl my boss would rather forget. The girl before me who vanished.

Summary
His hands are bound behind him, a crude butterfly drawn in blood on his bare back. He isn't the first.
When a drug addict finds the body of a man in the basement of an abandoned warehouse in New York City, Detective Damien Drake is called in to lead the murder investigation.
The victim was a philanthropist, father, doting husband, and wealthy junior partner in one of the cities most respected law firms.
He seemed to have the perfect life.
Yet when Damien probes deeper, he realizes that this man isn't the first. His investigation soon connects this murder with another in Montreal, both of which were emblazoned with the same bloody butterfly.
What dark secrets is the NYC lawyer hiding? And what is the significance of the butterfly?
As Damien inches closer to uncovering the truth, the killer is closing in on him - and those close to him.
Damien's last case cost him his partner's life. This case threatens not only his job, but his sanity, as well. And this time, the killer may be even smarter than he is.
One thing is for certain, if he doesn't catch the killer soon, more people will die. The only question is, will the next victim be someone close to Detective Damien Drake?

Dear God's!
This is probably one of the worst books I've ever listened to.
Reasons being, the story line is boring, the only interesting bits are the ones 'lifted' from Silence of the Lambs.
Secondly the Narrator reads as if he is on a chorus of very strong drugs.
Not for me.

This is a fabulous thriller, and one that I'm simply couldn't stop listening. The plot is original and well-thought, and the writing great.

And Michael Pauley's reading is perfect, adding to the intensity of the story and making this a very recommend audiobook.

Ugh
I wanted to like this. The story line itself was getting to be a little intriguing, but I was completely and totally thrown out of it by the narrator so many times that I had little tolerance for any sort of annoying plot holes or cliched tropes.
So when the villain was introduced as "the man in black" (biggest cliche ever) it sent me right to the edge of "NOPE" immediately, and then...oh gosh. The villain said to the main protagonist (only he says this to himself where only he can hear it while lurking in the shadows and looking at the main protagonist -- another whopping cliche) "your time will come"... Eye roll inducing cliche number 3 in a matter of seconds. I'm OUT!!
What year is this?? The story includes smart phones and references to Urban Dictionary, but the villain is out of a 1970s B film?? I was waiting for the narrator to say he wrung his long bony fingers together whilst saying "mwaaahahahahahHaha" afterwards. Geeze!!!!
So I may end up slogging through this when I've run out of reading credits for the month, but I just can't force myself back to it right now.
