Summary
After many years working around the world for an international charity in the late 1960s, Eleanor Trewynn has retired to the relative quiet of a small town in Cornwall. But her quiet life is short-lived when, due to her experience, the Commonwealth Relations Office reaches out to her to assist in a secret conference that is to take place in a small hotel outside the historical village of Tintagel.
Meanwhile, her niece, Detective Sergeant Megan Pencarrow, is investigating the disappearance of a local solicitor when she is assigned to help provide security for the conference. Two African students, refugees from Ian Smith's Rhodesia, arrive for the conference, escorted by Megan's bête noire from Scotland Yard. They are followed by two mysterious and sinister Londoners, whose allegiances and connections to the conference and the missing solicitor are unclear. With a raging storm having trapped everyone in the hotel, the stage is set for murder, and it's up to Eleanor and Megan to uncover the truth before more lives are lost.

Best in series
I throughly enjoyed this book. Lovely narration and ideal cosy murder for the over 60’s.

Great Fun
I've enjoyed the series, but some of the narrator's pronunciation of some words is absolutely excruciating. Wish they would do the research before recording!
That notwithstanding, they are well written and I'm going to get the paperbacks for mum for her birthday.

Country murder rather slow
Pleasant enough but drags along with a wealth of cosy descriptions of rather boring feelings and lengthy descriptions that could be trimmed by reducing the “little old lady” flow.

Good detective story
It's a good detective story but with some historical inaccuracies. Pound coins didn't exist until 1983, pounds were in notes at that time. There are a few slightly annoying Americanisms that creep in and some mispronunciations bit otherwise weĺl narrated.

Best of the series
I've enjoyed this series and this is definitely the best of them. The car chase is absolutely riveting, and quite unexpected.

Pronounciation problems
The executor of a Will is not pronounced as an executioner would be. The Cornish place names were pronounced as a German or American would which when supposed to be spoken by a Cornish person is most disconcerting. I regret they didn’t have to mention Worcestershire sauce

Rather meandering with historical innaccuracies.
Described as being set in the 60s - and for the 60s. Well I am 67 and I felt it was pretty tame with much of the narrative fairly condescending, inconsequential & even inane at times. I kept reading to see if the series redeemed itself - sadly it didn't but thankfully I didn't need to use credits for them. The proof readers need to check, among other things, when Range Rovers hit the street, and also when decimalisation was introduced.
