Expectations. Rules. Perfection. Aurora's life is dictated by everyone else's rules and expectations. One night, one man changes everything. It's a split-second decision that might just change her life, one broken rule at a time. Together, Aurora and Landon begin an adventure of rule-breaking, undeniable chemistry, and hot sex. It's a whirlwind of giving and losing control.

Aurora is just out of university, living in London and studying to become a teacher, when she meets Landon Peters, the unprofessional, sexy-as-hell, British billionaire CEO. He's seductive, downright naughty, and yet somehow, still a perfect English gentleman.

When shocking secrets are revealed and their lives begin to unravel, will this socialite and British bad boy be able to put their rules aside or will it all erupt in scandal?

Can this British bad boy and pretty English socialite build a future together, or is what they have really just sex?

Rules, Secrets and Control

Title: Broken Rules
Author: Hanleigh Bradley
Format: Audio
Narrator:Shelby Hughes
Genre: Romance, Virgin
Standalone: No
Part of a Series: Book 1 of The Rules Series
POV: Aurora and Landon
Steam Level: toasty
4/5

I don’t know how to describe Broken Rules. Landon is a man who has rules, rules to maintain his control. Aurora is out to break the rules she’s lived by her entire life, rules that were placed upon her by her parents. Landon and Aurora shouldn’t mix, but they do. Add in family drama, money and appearances and I’m not sure where this series will end up. This story kind of plods forward at a steady pace, but also goes back some when the POV is switched so that you can see both POV’s for the one event. It’s different but not unwelcome. Overall Broken Rules is a fun story and I look forward to seeing what will happen with Landon and Aurora and their both their family’s secrets.

Enjoyed listening

I received this book free for an honest review. Really enjoyed the story and the characters and hoping there’s more to come as it ended rather abruptly. Although I liked the narrator I can’t understand why an American narrator was used for a story set in the UK and the use of American pronunciations were very annoying. #storyorigin

Great start to the series!

The first book in the Rules series, we are treated to Aurora and Landon. Each have their own set of rules they have been living by, and now are breaking them all. Aurora, always the good girl has made the decision to start living by her own rules, not her parents. Landon keeps all women at arm's length, but there is something about Rory. Chemistry drives this story, and lets us take a trip with these two as they discover each other. Family secrets revealed, only each other to confide in, it's a great beginning and I can't wait to see where Bradley takes us with this couple.

Shelby Hughes gives a good performance. At times its had to determine who is speaking, but she does capture all the feelings and emotions of the characters. I do wish it was with a British accent, as the writing reflects the London brogue.

Broken Rules

Broken rules is a story of a young couple who meet in a night club. They both have rules, many of which are on opposites sides of a scale. Aurora is the University attending good girl who is ready to break some of the suffocating rules enforced by her parents. Landon is the CEO who doesn't do two dates or personal, but these two are drawn together and begin breaking their previously set in concrete rules.
The story feels very much like the first chapters of a complete story, and while some things are revealed during Broken Rules, it creates many questions.
The narration is a mixed bag for me. Shelby Hughes did not do a bad job, but given that the characters are British, it would have made better sense not to have an American accent.

Intriguing

This is an interesting story although I found it a little slow in places. Unfortunately the narrators voice was not for me.

Broken Rules

This is a great book. I really enjoyed the multiple POV. I love how Aurora is finding herself by breaking all her parents rules. On the other hand Landon is breaking all of his rules for her. This book ends on one heck of a cliffhanger! Can't wait to see what happens next.

Loads of questions now!

Hmmmm. So at the end of the book I have a lot of questions and theories as to what will happen and how things intertwine. My thoughts were pulled out of the story by the constant repetition of the same scene but from the other point of view. At first it was novel, but then it felt like continually rewinding the story and hearing the same scene again. Shelby Hughes does a decent job with the characters but gives away the fact she's not from the UK with the pronunciation of the place names. Worth a listen.

Broken Rules and Steamy Scenes

This was a great start to the series! Hanleigh is still a pretty new author to me and I was excited to take a chance on her contemporary romance series. I liked the dual POV, steam scenes, and characters within this story.
Everyone sees Aurora as picture perfect and she’s sick of not being able to live her life the way she wants. Landon doesn’t see the same woman twice, doesn’t date, and is seen by most as heartless. Both Aurora and Landon have their own set of rules and they find themselves breaking them for one another. The chemistry between Aurora and Landon is explosive and it’s nice seeing them both out of their comfort zone. Their story has so much potential and I can’t wait to see what happens next!
Stacy did a good job with the narration. I liked how well she voiced Aurora and brought her character to life, but I feel like her male voice for Landon was forced and gravelly. I also thought it was an odd choice to use an American narrator instead of a British one since the main characters are British.

Fortunately part of Aurora and Landon's story

Aurora doesn't brake the rules her parents have set, but now she's fed up of living her life by someone elses rules - so she sets about braking them, one by one. Landon has his own rules about women, but meeting Aurora throws them all out the window.
This is a virgin meets playboy trope - it does not make a big deal of either but it does fit the story.
There is an instant attraction between these two, and they can't stay away. I enjoyed watching these two outside their comfort zone. Both come from influential families, but there seems to be a few secrets that might be about to be exposed, things look like they will be getting very interesting.
There is no cliffhanger, but but story does stop without an ending so I'm looking forward to the next book to see how the relationship progresses.
The narration was good although there were a few words that were pronounced incorrectly (mostly locations), however I would listen to the narrator again.
