About this listen
Historically, major women artists have been excluded from the mainstream art canon. Aligned with the resurgence of feminism in pop culture, Broad Strokes offers an entertaining corrective to that omission. Art historian Bridget Quinn delves into the lives and careers of 15 brilliant female artists in this smart, feisty, educational, and enjoyable book.
This is art history from 1600 to the present day for the modern art lover and feminist.

Fascinating!
I discovered and rediscovered so many interesting artists. Well paced and just the right amount of the author's personal story coming through and combined with the lives of the artists.

Great Book ruined by narrator
I really enjoyed the content, it's incredibly informative about female artists and their work, from the 1600s to today. For me, it was ruined by a highly irritating narrator who read it like a teenage romance. Such a shame as otherwise it's a great book.

Like listening to an arty friend :)
Really interesting listen, I googled lots of the artists mentioned along the way. I can see some others have rated the book down for this; but I loved the personal opinions and thoughts that were included. It made it like talking with a friend, a very fascinating friend that you wish you knew as much about art as they do! What a touching way to end the book too. I hope Bridget is proud of helping to keep the legacy of too often overlooked women artists alive, and inspiring the rest of us to keep at it! <3

Riveting and Informative
A fascinating look at 15 inspiring female artists. Quinn succinctly writes of how the artists lives (and their femaleness) shaped the art which they created.
Glorious. A feminists wet dream.

Worth the initial struggle
Initially found the delivery of the narration a little difficult but slowing it down to 0.85 actually makes a big difference to the overall feel. Well worth getting passed that for an introduction / re-introduction to some amazing artists
