Summary

This time, is an EMP only the first strike?

With a credible threat to the United States and a plane stuck on the tarmac, Grant Walton is 30 seconds from full-blown panic mode. He's the only one in the airport who knows the truth. When the power goes out, he can't waste another second. It's the beginning of the end and every man for himself.

A nuclear attack will rip the country apart.

Leah Walton is wrapping up a 12-hour shift as a nurse in the heart of the city. When the power goes out, the hospital operates on crisis mode. She can't stop to breathe, let alone check her messages. When she finally listens to her husband's frantic calls, she's faced with an impossible choice: leave or die trying.

Could you drop everything to save yourself?

Grant and Leah race the clock to find each other before the United States is plunged into chaos. When the bombs fall, their worst fears come true. Can Grant make it home in time to find his wife? Will Leah escape the brunt of the blast?

The EMP is only the beginning.

Brace for Impact is book one in Nuclear Survival: Southern Grit, a post-apocalyptic thriller series following ordinary people struggling to survive after a nuclear attack plunges the nation into chaos.

nuclear explosions don’t work this way, sorry

Found characters unconvincing, acting unnaturally, likewise with story overall. Major flaws in description of effects of a nuclear detonation, for instance main character obsesses with having 20 minutes to get into a concrete structure after blast - “before radiation arrives”. Just a ridiculous concept. Sorry Harley. Nuclear physics homework not done. Hard to keep reading past these things and overall story not up to par for this category

Hard to finish.

I've listened to many books in this genre. I listened to the entire book although the end of it was hard to get through. I was hoping it would get better as I listened but it never did. Don't waste your time there are many other books that have a better story to them then this one.

The story was very weak. Not very interesting.

Not very believable, nor realistic. It seemed to drag on and on after a reasonable start.

Good book

Very inciting as what to expect if we have a cyber attack. Just don’t want to believe that we would just give up and let the Chinese take over. Hope we’re better than that. On how harsh it could get during a time as this. Yes, it probably would be just that bad, because so few people nowadays know how to do anything to survive.

I listened to it in two sittings...

I love a good book that I can't stop reading (or in this case, listening to). I listened to it in two sittings (only because I had to sleep in the middle). I have already got books two and three in my kindle que and can't wait to dive in.

Pretty Realistic but mainly Educational

I hope the Powers that Be in Russia or China don’t read this book and get any ideas. On the other hand, it’s probably more likely that our DHS, CIA, and DOD already disarm such attempts on a fairly regular basis, whether foreign or domestic. I fear our power grid is truly as vulnerable as it seems in this story. That’s part of the educational function of this book, along with providing basic info about nuclear warfare effects and capabilities, as well as some indications of how to prepare—in case anyone out there is so inclined.

ok

Lea capable when nursing, otherwise a ninny. Grant loyal, but a ninny too. Technical explanations good. Everyone unprepared and many in denial. Two narrators, both excellent, but distracting to go between the two. Both capable of voicing either gender.
