Summary

Dreaming the Serpent Spear is the magnificent final story of the world’s most famous warrior queen in in Manda Scott’s best-selling Boudica series.

Britannia, AD 60: the tribes of Britannia are ready to seek bloody vengeance. Twenty thousand warriors are poised to reclaim their land from their captors.

Now is their chance: the Roman governor has marched his legions west, leaving his capital and a vital port undefended. There is no going back.

But to crush her enemies for all time, the Boudica must do more than lead her army in the greatest rebellion Britain has ever known. She must find healing for herself, for the land - and for Graine, her eight-year-old daughter.

Colchester is burning. London has been destroyed. Amidst fire and bloody revolution, the Boudica and those around her must fight to keep what matters most - now and for all time.

Excellent

So wonderfully written. Descriptions are so vivid and clever, using onomatopoeia, makes the reader easily image the scene and go into it (as in the dreaming Manda Scott describes)

The Boudicca - hero of my dreams

OMG I’m devastated to get to the end of this story. The Boudicca has walked in my dreams for ever and to hear her life and loves and tragedies brought so vividly alive by Manda Scott and the team has been a delight. Sublime, simply sublime.

Incredible books. The author's notes are great!

Helped me understand more about a period of time that I'd not heard much about. Gripping from the first to last.

A Fitting Finale

Oh my goodness, I did NOT want this book to end but it was a great and emotional final instalment in a brilliant series. Beautifully read, as always, and thank you Manda Scott for bringing this period in history so alive and for introducing me to the concept of dreaming. Wonderful!

The last in the series

It was with great sadness I finished this book. I have enjoyed listening to all four, I came to know the characters, the narrators brought them to life, as it was two Millenia ago. I am now going to look for more of Manda Scott's writing.

Amazing

I so rarely leave a review however I have absolutely loved this series to the point that I put off listening to the last 3hours for a about a month because I didn't want it to end. Nanda took a well k own legend with a deeply unsatisfactory ending and created twists and turns that still kept you guessing AND managed to. Give everyone the ending they needed by the end of the book utterly amazing

Loved this series

I think Manda Scott and her team have researched and written a very engaging account of this period. The audiobook narrators have brought the characters alive and have contributed to a very enjoyable and satisfying experience. Thank you.

Stunning in every way.

I have lived in this story throughout it's epic encounter. I now grieve for our loss of culture and have much gratitude to Manda Scott for creating this historical fiction of such depth, intensity and scholarly detail. I loved and loathed characters, fully drawn into the detail. The narration was gentle and urgent and intense, keeping my attention throughout.
I can see what we have lost and how that we the abused and decimated have become the abusers, that we must heal to change the course of the future, find our own sacred within and become indigenous to the land again, however much against the tide of current culture.

I have even been inspired to make clothes of natural botanical dyed wool and have a beautiful gorse dyed Welsh wool waistcoat with birch leaf dyed silk lining! We too can wear feathers in our hair in honour of our culture and not feel like or take blame for appropriating another's.
This series will stay with me for a long time and I look forward to exploring Manda Scott's website and bibliography on what to read next.
