Summary

The explosive true story of a gun for hire.

Hard eyes stare out of massive beards, their faces marked by the scars of battle. With these guys their webbing looks like it belongs to them, rather than it's been hung on a pair of reluctant shoulders. There's not a word been said to us, but the ante has clearly been upped. There's a dark and sinister feeling in the air. It doesn't take a genius to figure it's about to kick off.

Former SAS soldier Big Phil Campion tells it like is in this brutally honest account of his insanely dangerous life as a private military operator. From playing chicken with a suicide bomber in backstreet Kabul to taking on pirates with his bare hands, this is true-life action-packed drama at its best.

Snowflakes beware!

If you can get over the bored sounding narration and the homophobic overtones, the book does have some grit to it in places. Basically a man punches a lot of people with his “Hampshire hammer” as he calls it, and takes glee is recounting all the time’s he’s won fights.
This is peppered with his love for guns, contempt for non military, or more accurately non SAS personnel, and a belief that there is only 1 big dog in town and that’s Big Phil.
It often lacks human emotion, and is a bit like overhearing a man in a pub trying to impress his mates with hard man stories in which he is inevitably always the hero of the day.
It touches on his troubled upbringing and reconnecting with his birth family, which is all a welcome relief and when one feels most connected to the author.
Somewhat entertaining in places, but mostly forgettable.

SAS

Phil has a uncanny way of describing in detail the very life he lives or living in the SAS and other sectors of Security and protection outfits. I cackled out loud almost every chapter as it was very funny and at the same time inspiring. I cannot believe he is still alive and breathing even after all he has been through with very tough times and situations he just kept on wading through like a man possessed.

Brilliant

I normally don't like it when authors narrates their own books, but in this instance no one else could have read it better, it's a brilliant book, didn't want to stop listening but I to sleep and work sometime! Highly recommended.

BIG PHIL, The guy is a legend and his book was everything I hoped it would be, great stories and accounts of his experiences in some of the most dangerous places in the world.

It's just another day at the office

It's amazing how people's lives are so different and what we just take for granted. I think we all take surviving each day for granted but that's easy when you have a 9to5.
Different when you spend most of your days in war zones and some days they aren't war zones it's worse.
Great listen and told in a it happens everyday kind of way 👍

Awesome, brilliant and funny

Love it, well read by Phil. Typically narrated with his no nonsense dry humour attitude. Absolutely loved it! 10/10 for big Phil. Even better with the typical dry military humour and expressions thrown in the mix.

Huge respect for SAS guys

The book was fantastically read, that black humour that only ex sqaddies really get who have served on tours. I have read all the who dares wins cast books, the only other ones that is near to this is Ollie Olliton and Billy Billingham, the other 2 are average and depressing
