About this listen
The war on the Eastern Front from 1941 to 1945 was the bloodiest combat theater in the bloodiest war in history. Oberleutnant Friedrich Wilhelm Sander experienced this bloodshed firsthand when serving with the 11th Panzer-Regiment. This regiment made up the core of the 6th Panzer-Division, one of Hitler's top armored formations, which was involved in most of the major campaigns on the Eastern Front; campaigns such as Operation Barbarossa and Operation Winter Storm.
Sander recorded his experience of these campaigns in astounding detail in some recently-discovered diaries covering the period from April 1938 to December 1943, translated here for the first time by historian Robin Schäfer. Written during the fighting, these diaries not only offer an honest assessment of the war on the Eastern Front, but also provide an insight into the mind of a young and highly politicized officer, and offer an intimate glimpse into the close-knit community of a German Panzer crew.
A brutally honest, immediate, and unfiltered personal account, Sander's translated diaries make for a uniquely fascinating account about some of the most important campaigns of the Second World War. Blood, Dust and Snow will be of great interest not only to listeners studying the war on the Eastern Front, but also to any historian researching the Second World War.

History not fiction
Simply what it says it is, the edited memoirs of a Junior Panzer Commander during WW2.
Not a story, not glory, just the mundane realities of war where food is more important than bullets to the men on the ground.
A very personal account, the commentary is none judgemental,

Raw and bloody
An excellent, raw and surprisingly real account of the war on the Eastern front. So good I was left wondering where the rest of his story was when the book suddenly finished in 1943!

Thoroughly enjoyable.
This was insightful and enjoyable. A brutally honest, violent and often humorous first hand account that truly depicts life as a Panzer commander. Wouldn’t hesitate to recommend and will listen again in the future!

To see the Russian front from the perspective of a German tank officer
So used to hearing the pov of the victors, interesting to hear the dreams and aspirations of the (fortunately) vanquished.

Well documented diary’s
This soldiers diary is well is well documented in news papers and such. The only problem I’ve found is certain bits I’ve heard in other audio books word for word, I think some on the man’s diary has been borrowed and used in these other German soldier accounts and passed off as genuine, I believe this is the genuine account.

Monotonous and boring
Miss this at all costs. Captures tedium fantastically well. No blow by blow accounts of battles or firefights, no passion just awful.
