About this listen
Giverny. During the day, the home of the famous artist Claude Monet and the gardens where he painted his water lilies. But once the tourists have gone, there is a darker side to the peaceful French village. This is the story of 13 days that begin with one murder and end with another.
Jérôme Morval, a man whose passion for art was matched only by his passion for women, has been found dead in the stream that runs through the gardens. In his pocket is a postcard of Monet's Water Lilies with the words 'Eleven years old. Happy Birthday.' Entangled in the mystery are three women: a young painting prodigy, the seductive village schoolteacher and an old widow who watches over the village from a mill by the stream.
All three of them share a secret. But what do they know about the discovery of Jérôme Morval's corpse? And what is the connection to the mysterious rumoured painting of black water lilies?

Is there anything you would change about this book?
This book could do with serious editing. While the conclusion is unexpected and original, there were long sections when it was difficult to remain interested - not helped by the monotonous reader. If you’ve listened to books by Michel Bussi before, how does this one compare?
I have not read any of his other books and don't think I ever will. What didn’t you like about Joan Walker’s performance?
A very affected voice which became progressively more irritating. There are three main characters in the book, one a child, one a young woman and the other an 80 year old and she made them all sound alike.Do you think Black Water Lilies needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?
Most of the characters were dead at the end....so unlikely!Any additional comments?
There are so many excellent readers around it is hard to understand why such a dull one was selected for this book.Intriguing conclusion but.....
