Gli ultimi giorni della vita di Lev Tolstoj, realmente svoltisi come in un romanzo - dalla fuga da casa del grande scrittore, sino alla morte nella minuscola stazione di Astapovo - sono alla base di questo sceneggiato radiofonico che vuole essere testimonianza per il pubblico della personalità e delle idee del grande scrittore russo.
Frutto di un attento studio filologico che rende aderente alla storia e credibile il personaggio Tolstoj, le tredici scene di "Biglietto di sola andata", recitate da 24 personaggi, presentano le sue idee profonde e attualissime sulla coppia, l'amore, la morte, la vecchiaia, con un occhio ironico a poliziotti e giornalisti (la cronaca di questa morte in diretta è forse il primo caso mediatico della storia) e senza privarci di quel lirismo che ha reso indimenticabili le sue pagine di letteratura.
