Let’s start with the positives. Good to see another fat protagonist and bi representation. The author’s strengths lie in describing dates, make up and clothing. Yes ladies, that’s all we deserve. That, I’m afraid, is as good as it gets. Descriptions of dates between two bi-women could be so fun and interesting and non-stereotypical, but here they’re reduced to cooing over each others hair, nails, tops and make up. On the author’s insta profile she credits an external editor with giving it a plot which, call me old-fashioned, is sort of the most important thing about a book? Essentially what this is is a tawdry, shallow, unlikeable meandering collection of scenes loosely strung together with a supposed plot, and new and recycled characters that I struggle to connect with, let alone actually like. It feels like the author has dialled it in in the expectation her social media following will be elated to see her favourite words “chic” and “vibes” on every other page. The fat and bi communities deserve better than this. Much better
