Lessons in Leadership and Innovation
Lessons in Leadership, Innovation, AND Embracing Opportunities.
Round trip to Dorset yesterday presented the opportunity I needed to finish the book.
Finally.
And, what an enjoyable read it is.
📈 Success isn't about avoiding risks but strategically embracing them. From developing a new product feature to venturing into a new market, bold decisions can elevate our brand and set us apart.
📈 We need to recognise when a unique growth opportunity presents itself, even if it's outside our comfort zone. Whether it's a challenging project or a collaboration across teams, dive in headfirst.
📈 The world of product and marketing is dynamic. Hiatt emphasises the power of resiliency, reminding us to bounce back from setbacks, continuously learn, and adapt to the ever-changing landscape.
📈 Just as Hiatt pursued her academic dreams and then found her way back into the tech world, we should remain flexible. If a marketing strategy isn't working, pivot. If a product feature isn't resonating, reassess and adapt.
📈 Surrounding ourselves with individuals who challenge, inspire, and support us can foster immense growth. Mentorship, collaboration, and continuous learning are keys to success in our space.
📈 Whether it's understanding customer pain points or finding meaning in day-to-day tasks, perspective can transform the mundane into the meaningful, turning a regular campaign into a resonating message.
A book full of actionable insights and things to consider.

Surprisingly informative!
Ann has had some really interesting experiences in her life which she shares in great detail in this book!
Throughout the book Ann offers frank advice accompanied by “ROI sprints” for the reader to try at home. I thought the majority of the tips and hacks were insightful and valuable.
Only giving this book 4 stars because I don’t think there was anything groundbreaking in this book. It was however, clear and concise.

What a book!
I'm still not sure how I ended up reading this book but it's been one of the best things to happen to me this year. I love the authenticity, style, motivation and story telling done by Ann. Her experiences from a professional results driven person to how she evolved later in her career & business are not only memorable, but a huge encouragement. I am pleased to have come across this gem 💎

An Awesome Book - taking a different angle
'Bet on Yourself' – a FANTASTIC book by Ann Hiatt – why fantastic? I come to that.
I rate every book I listen to and take pleasure in listening to audiobooks. However, this is my first written review, so I looked at what others people have done. One point stands out – how I came across this book? For me, it started with a book, 'Stealing Fire', where I learned about Eric Schmidt, and it took three more books before I landed here – 'Bet on Yourself' by Ann Hiatt.
I love that Ann is narrating herself, and you can hear her passion and emotion when listening (my preference is that the author reads their own book). It took me only a weekend to listen to the entire book, and I noticed a fluent, effortless writing style. Most of the time, I caught myself as if I was there in a high-vibe environment in the early '00.
Another point I picked up is that there are no common comparisons or examples that tend to repeat themselves in many other publications. Ann's book is an original approach, and I think this is the main difference; being in the front row and observing a reinventing company's environment, she shares those insights with us.
Amazon and Google are true innovators, which was very clear at the beginning of their journey, and before revenue streams kicked in. Now we know they are successful organisations. However, those early days could have gone either way. They had a clear vision and knew what they wanted to achieve; this is enormous advice for early entrepreneurs. There are sections in the book that you will stop and think about for a long time to comprehend what they had in mind. The approach was unique.
Encarouging thought; -- if you are an entrepreneur and you are being misunderstood, you are on the correct path :)
I recommend this book to everyone, whether you are a student, an employee trying to advance your career, changing jobs or, like me, building your own company with a team of talented people.
'Step-by-Step ferociously' – an idea, you will find it :)
I want to listen to this book again with my teenage children.
